My 992 has had to be returned to Porsche Centre

Hello this is my first time on this site. Im interested to know if there are any other issues with the 992 I have had mine for 3 months purchased is Surrey and i've had a few issues the most recent being a completely dead battery after 2 days of not being driven which in turn lead to a few other problems surfacing. It turns out that my car had a recall / campaign to be fixed a software issue caused by the tracker which in turn was draining the battery. Then coincidentally when i went to collect my car and while still at the garage the drivers side seat adjustment switches didn't work that had to be obtained from somewhere. i left and within 5 minutes warnings went off roof not secure and the spoiler also not working. turned out that i needed a new control unit for the roof and i never did get an answer to the spoiler issue. driver side speaker had to be replaced due to distortion and vibration this is after a previous replacement of the passenger side speaker. My car is supposed to be fitted with the top of the range speakers. Last weekend i've collected my car and so far no warning lights flashing and the battery is looking OK. Its a bit disappointing to find the 992 is not as well sorted a i thought it would be.
I hope that's it for all my teething issues. I was interested to read in a previous post that a new boot for the rear cost £330 i hope that included VAT was that purchased from Porsche.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear you've had some problems too. The rear spoiler is a new one on me!

I have had a LONG list of on going problems (https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1038646). I also had a flat battery at the weekend (which somehow broke the rear boot release and the drivers one touch window), the car is currently in the dealership fixing those and trying (for the forth time) to track down a rattle they introduced fixing something previously (https://lrr.me/992rattle) I've just received an update call from the dealer principle, the rattle stopped when the car was driven without the 'Wind Deflector' so they ordered a replacement one however the rattle returned with the new part, so they are still searching.

Totally agree with you "Its a bit disappointing to find the 992 is not as well sorted a i thought it would be.".

Let's hope all now stays well for you.

Lee.

I had various updates last week at Porsche Colchester. They gave me the coin tray and cup holder without asking.

Hi - I just wondered how your 992 settled down? Mine has a major engine failure with only 800 miles on it. I've had it 3 weeks. The Porsche centre were not particularly helpful either and offered no replacement Porsche, simply something from Enterprise.

I was really enjoying it too!

Apparently, fragments of metal were in the oil so its not good news and requires a new engine.

That is bad luck...I've had mine in for a couple of issues. One was a rattle and then I've had to replace the back tires twice...really bad luck with nails and screws. The most severe was when the ground to the wiring loom came loose, and the 992 literally died after flashing virtually every warning you can imagine. It was dramatic.

That being said, have been on several long drives through Europe, including Grimsel, Susten, Furka, Stelvio, San Bernardino Passes, the Route des Grandes Alpes and an Autobahn-based trip to Vianna amongst others, and can say that it has been worth every niggle along the way!

Wow, that's a bummer! I would not be happy with a 'hire car' rather than a like for like, and certainly my OPC would not offer that with a new car.

You are within your rights to reject the car as not fit for the purpose it was designed for under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I rejected mine in June after 4 weeks of ownership due to serious faults.

if you own the car as I did then it’s easier than if you have finance. If the finance company own the car and you will have to work with them for a resolution.

I agree that they should have given you a like for like loaner car or at least a Merc / BMW.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for this - so did they pay you out? I have no finance on the car thankfully.

I don't think Porsche have any engines spare that are built or surely they wouldn't mess about and just sort it. The bad press wouldn't do them any favours, or at least, that's how I would look at it.

Even if they had an engine for it, I'm not sure I'd want it. Bound to never be the same again and always be giving me hassle?

Thanks

James

Hi Dave,

I hope that your 992 has settled down? I have been desperately unlucky with mine I think. In the end a replacement engine was fitted but Porsche had the car for 10 weeks. I've not driven it since for fear of the same thing happening again so I'm not sure where to go with it.
992's do seem to suffer more electrical issues than the previous 991 cars which is disappointing but perhaps they will level out. I think its very difficult with Porsche, the 992 is a fantastic car - when its all working! When it doesn't work, you're on your own. You get an Enterprise rental car and nobody from Porsche GB takes you seriously. I'd think twice before spending 180k with Porsche again. I'd love a 992 C4S but if I bought one I think i'd prefer one with 5k miles on it so the first owner has had all the hassles.
Good luck with your 992 and I hope it gets sorted.

Hi,

I took delivery of my new 992 Turbo S then after a few days then realised (doh!) the steering wheel was offset to the right by 5 degrees. The Innodrive didn't work either.

It went back to Porsche Swindon who sorted them.

Doesn't the factory carry out QA checks?

Thanks,

Simon
