That's a really nice colour - not sure I have ever seen one in that shade before...

Yes more pictures and details would be great - how long have you had the car ?

hi chaps, I will be working on the car tonight so I'll take a few more snaps

its an early '85 with square dash - which i quite like (of the era as it where) - with 144k on the clock but an extensive history file to go with it

its got a black half leather interior with porsche inscripted cloth inserts, but i thing they were a replacement - either way, very nice - a few nicks and marks here and there but all adds to the character

changed the plugs and cleaned the air filter out, with oil change next - both engine and gear box - though the clutch is A1 so long may it stay that way

speedo stopped working when i bought it, so ive fed a new cable in and just gotta reconnect it tonight

am gonna change the wheels back to cookie cutters, as this will be period correct, but also go really nicely with the green as i have a set to refurb back to polished lip and black face

but enough chat ... I'll get some more pics on here either tomorrow of Thursday .... MoT tomorrow, so fingers crossed

It's lovely.

We did have an early turbo owner with the same colour, it's in the "colours" faq, and I seem to remember an early (y-reg I think) lux that was having a lot of rust replaced by the owner.

Pretty car. And a nice early one, so it will have the desirable suspension geometry.

The proper wheels will make it look even better! [:)]

Very nice.
The cookies will look great re-finished, with that lovely Crystal Green original colour[8D]

I remember the crystal green Lux.He made a bit of the sill up with a piece of box section if I remember correctly.

Lovely car / colour Shantos,
I remember seeing one that colour back in the day, stunning - it cost more than my house at the time, similar colour to the Mk1 Scirocco Storm.
The one I saw was parked near Stroud, Gloucestershire
good luck with it

Nice car Shantos... a word of warning re gearbox oil change... remember to remove the filler plug first, you don't want to empty the oil only to find you can't get the filler plug off to refill, it happens...:)

That is a great looking motor Shantos.

Your plans for the car sound quite fitting too. I agree that Cookie Cutters would look suoerb on it, although some suitable Fuchs should work as well IMO :).

I was trying to be polite....[&:]

I was being polite Paul lol [:D]

Good news is that this doesn't look like that car.

thanks for the compliments, much appreciated .... yes, the cookie cutters with black face and polished rims will certainly set off the colour even more, and it will mean i can get rid of the spacers, which i could not get off myself - so off to my mates garage later

cheers for the heads up on the gearbox oil change; the gear change is so smooth, i wanna make sure I keep it that way for as long as possible

some corrosion on the car, but sills not too bad either way

i honestly didn't think i'd enjoy the drive as much as I do ..... it's a fantastic car

more pics to come ... i tried to take some yesterday, but by the time id exhausted myself trying to yank the spacer off so i could connect the new speedo cable, it was too dark

...

Hi Shantos and welcome,

Lovely colour, nice and unusual get those pics up with the cookies ASAP! Better still get to a meet and show her off
Whereabouts are you based? Anywhere near Cranliegh on 17th August?

Hi Andy, yes I'm a 15 minute drive from Cranleigh and really want to come over ... just planning a few things at the mom (family duties etc etc) but will love to come along

I had a set of cookie cutters lined up to refurb an fit on, but ive also seen a set of fully refurbed teledials with black face and polished rims also on sale - which i am after, so lets see

MoT and belts hopefully all done by the weekend and will get the pics up asap ... just need the time !!!!!!!

......

Loverly colour there is a turbo the same colour on ebay

well that didn't last long .... took the car for an MoT and found all kinds of rot under the sills, some of it too close to the rear suspension mounts, so not only was it a fail, but will cost '000s' to rectify. As such, I've had to put it up for sale as spares/repairs as i just cant justify it at the moment.

What gets me is that so bad was the corrosion, how the hell did it pass the MoT in the last few years.

Luckily, i didnt pay too much for it, so no big loss, but I enjoyed every single minute of driving that car, even though it was only for a few weeks.

Needless to say, that I am already looking for another one, maybe a 2.7, though i really love the old style square dash. so may have to settle for a 2.5.

sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but when i saw it on the ramps, it was truly horrendous, and also very well covered up on the sills !!!!

pics of the car as per the ebay add

Hi Shant,

Did you look inside the sills before buying? It's the only way to get a good idea, as the thick stone-guard holds the rust in until it's very far advanced. It's also essential to get underneath and look around.

The trouble is that it's all a case of degrees. There are a lot of cars with enough rust to warrant repairs, and if you're repairing it properly it's a lot of work and paint no matter how far it's spread. If there are signs of repair then it's important you see pictures of what was done, and again, check inside in case they just welded one of the cheap repair panels over the rust. []

944s are still better-built than anything else from the '80s, and a lot of the more modern cars as well. It's worth buying a good one, but be prepared to spend some money restoring a car that's getting rarer by the day! [:)]
