My Lovely New Wing

Hi guys. I had the car in for a few days this week to deal with the old dreaded turbo wing rot. I am that chuffed with the result that I thought I would share the before and after piccies with you guys. I used a local guy to me in Stamford who came recommended but was not known to me so some would say a bit of a gamble. Have a look for yourselves anyway I think he did a superb job and wasn't too expensive either. I would highly recommend him if you are in the area. I will definitley be going back for some small cosmetic stuff.

Before - OH DEAR!!!

Get some cavity wax in there Rob and keep the plastic sill extensions clear of crud.

Nice one, looks good

I envy your wise decision to repair rather than replace the wings [&:] good job, be pleased that your car will be one of the few still around in 3-4years when 90% have gone and the values pick up [:)]

in the "before" shot, is it full of filler? I wouldn't have thought metal would split like that.

Hi Rob, I'm in Lincoln so not too far away and need a similar job doing soonish. Can you pm me details and an idea of price? Thanks, Ben

PM sent mate but said it was undliverable??? It is in my sent box though so let me know if you got it or not.

Why is replacing the wing not a good idea? I had planned to replace one of my wings which has assorted paint damage as well as a shonky fibre-glass repair in the usual spot.

They simply bolt in (right?) so replacement should be cheap and easy.

Not sure about "cheap", a new wing is expensive and used ones are often worse than the original. Repair to the existing wing is obviously cheaper than fitting a used one, then repairing and painting it. Assuming the wing isn't completely shot.

The big advantage of taking the wing off is that you can check and protect the inner areas, particularly the a-pillar. There are occasional reports of early corrosion here, it's only going to be a bigger issue in the future and something that is easily dealt with now. I've got exactly the same dilemma, do I go for a cheap repair to the slight rust on the bottom of the wings, or go the whole hog and take the wings off.....[&o]

Well I am over the moon with the job I had done. Had a look at the inner wing behind the liner and even before I undersealed it all it looked spotless. Even the ABS pump and it's bracketry was in top notch condition. Of course you could remove every panel from the car to check bodywork condition but I suppose that's a gamble. Given the same choice again I would still repair.

He's done a great job, I've bought a 2nd wing thats now as bad as the one on the car as my route, but thats only because mine is a daily drive and this way I can have the replacement repaired and ready then its just half a day in the garage to replace it and check the inner.
Sound like you've checked over the rest as you've gone though so all should be good ocne its sealed up ready for the winter [;)]
