My Lovely New Wing

Why is replacing the wing not a good idea? I had planned to replace one of my wings which has assorted paint damage as well as a shonky fibre-glass repair in the usual spot.
They simply bolt in (right?) so replacement should be cheap and easy.
It is not that it isn't a good idea - it is because it is much much more expensive - £400 per wing (no point going this route with an inferior pattern part and used wing will likely be just as bad as your original) and approx the same labour man-hours per wing as a complete repair would take. They may be bolt on - but that doesn't mean they don't need a bit of fettling - and if you go GF or CF then you're looking at many many more hours of fettling. But upsides are of course you get to take a look underneath as Paul says.
A decent body shop with good tin-bashing skills can replace the bottom part of the wing such that you couldn't tell and modern acid etch undercoats mean they'll last too.
While this is true, the number of bodyshops who can do work like this are surprisingly small. Many nowadays simply replace parts - they don't repair them to any significant extent. A 944 with a rusty wing is a 944 which needs a new wing, to them, and proper skilled sheet metal fabrication is not something they do.ORIGINAL: sawood12
