Well, I have now done 700 miles and am very much in love. Boy! what a car. I am still keeping the revs under 5,000 (my handbook gives no limit, but suggests no harsh acceleration for 1800 miles) but can see the potential. The handling is superb (well compared to a Range Rover, my previous cars, it would be!). Interesting getting in and out, but if I lose a few pounds it should get easier. My wife's favourite part? The automatic rear spoiler.

What is great is the amount of tailoring to ones taste that can be done to the PCM, door locking, wipers, air con and seats. Set it all up, open the door with the key and there it is.

My only downside is that the M/f steering wheel had not been programmed and so it was down to AFN Guildford (not the original dealer) to get that sorted.

I am travelling for the next week, but will post some side pics when I get back.

I have created a running in schedule of my own:
Up to 500 miles: 4,000rpm
500-1,000: 5,000
1,000 to 1,500: 6,000

This is the first time I have ever run in a car for so long, but I guess it will be worth it in the end.

The journey to the airport this morning at 05.30 was sublime!

Run in is 1800 miles at no more than 5,500 revs but all revs within that range ie constant variation in speed, gear and throttle position.

Then "drive it like you stole it"

Always gett he oil up to temp first before caning it is some sound advice I've been given

Sounds like a chore but actually up to 5,500 is still fairly swift.

Same here, but the MF wheel is only available in that style...
I would of liked the MF wheel, but I also wanted the thicker sports wheel.
heck! I wasted quite a bit of my life pondering that option...[:(]

All personal options for that very reason....

Many thanks Gary and have eMailed as necessary. I am up to 1360 miles now and so only 440 more to run it in. I am going with OkellyT's suggestion.
 
If not already fitted get the 5mm spacers all round which somehow really transforms the stance from the rear! A friend followed me back from the AGM in his Cayman and really noticed the difference!
Your OPC can supply and fit.

Marc, I notice that you have the Carrera Sport wheels, these are 10mm wider than the standard, 305 v 295mm.
 
Are you sure the carrera sport wheels are wider? I thought the tyres (not wheels) were wider on 4wd cars 305, whereas 2wd cars have 295 tyres. Wheel style does not change the width of tyres fitted as standard I believe.

Ahh, indeed! Just checked the price list and it seems the Carrera Sport wheels are the only wheels to fit 305 to both 2wd and 4wd cars. All other wheels specify 295 for 2wd and 305 for 4wd.

I stand corrected! [:-]

Seems the rims themselves are 0.5J wider on both front and rear than all other wheels. They are 8.5J front and 11.5J rear, whereas all other wheels are 8J front and 11J rear.

They have a smaller offset at the front than other wheels (by 2mm) but this will of course be to counter the additional rimwidth.

And finally they are unique to 2wd cars not being available for any 4wd version.

Wonder why the Carrera Sports are different to all the other four styles of 19" wheel?

Thanks Marc,....... that is the precise reason I asked you to post some pictures of the Carrera Sport wheels. I knew these were wider than than the Carrera S wheels. I fitted a pair of rear Carrera S wheels to my car which had an offset of ET51. The correct offset for the C2S ET67.... which in comparison retrcat inwards by 15mm or so.

When I had the ET51 offset fitted I could see the tyre in the side mirrors, so if you fitt 5mm spacers you will 'possibly' see the tyre also. In any case the ET67 offset is correct for the 2S, unless you have the 'Sports' like yours.

These seem to be quite scarce on the 911 997 & I've never seen any fitted. I was contemplating a set but I'll just be sticking with my 'S' wheels for now. Maybe on my next Porsche.

They look fantastic by the way and will fill out the arch perfectly.
