I think you'll also need to address the time taken to adjust and tighten the seat belts at driver change time with there being a big difference in your sizes.

The GT3 cup car I raced had the drivers seat on rails, but biggest driver started the race as its easier to tighten the belts than ease them off

^^^^^^^^ This we do too. Like you say 2.5mins plenty we get 60secs. With HANS and wrist restraints is a faff.

Anyway I beat 100 other people that day....including 12 'known' race drivers so ner ner ner ner ner![8D]

Still don't like it as much as my Porsche one the following year where I beat the lap record...funny story...for another time[:)]

(goes hunting for where the hell he put that one...)

I thought they were tricky things to drive Jason. Wooden feel to the slicks, and snatchy brakes. Good fun though.

They are like the entire opposite of a 911.

When you get it right they are great fun but the first time I drove one I think I did more off circuit rally driving than track driving!!

An update ..........

With the start of the season getting closer we are finalising our preparations. The car has had a few niggles sorted out, new seat and harnesses installed, a Wilwood big brake kit, and most importantly a full set of original period race decals. I think it looks fantastic !
We had a run out at a very slippery Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago. They had salted the track to clear snow, and it was in the horrible greasy state, in which it stayed all day. I have never felt less grip on a track before. As it happens it was a very good initiation to how the car handles in a low-grip scenario, and it certainly needs to be treated gently. The understeer was almost impossible to drive round unless you used some pretty lairy mid-corner lift off - in itself not a great way to go quickly. But it was a hoot to drive, and great fun going sideways down Paddock Hill ! I had a massive result finding two full sets of barely used Michelin Pilot Sport Cups to use in the dry, so it's going to have plenty of grip. It's going to be brilliant on the tighter tracks such as Brands and Cadwell, but could struggle for straightline grunt at Silverstone and Snetterton.
We took it off for a compulsory dyno run and were pleased to discover that it has 133.7bhp at the hubs (probably means c.160bhp at the flywheel), so at minimum wieght inc driver of c.980kg that puts us firmly in the middle of Class C (125-150 bhp/tonne). Our next challange is to see if we can remove a bit more wieght and get us closer to the top of the Class to be as competitive as possible.
Race licence and all the kit purchased - first race at Brands on 24th March - bring it on !!!!

Excellent! One way to save weight would be to keep your co-driver out of the car.....[;)]

Our declared weight is with me in the driving seat, so it's a light as it's going to be !

Is 24th March early ??? The gaps between the races are pretty big too - five races spread between end of March and mid-November ! There are opportunities to do some races in the MSV Team Trophy too (graduate series for the Trackday Trophy), but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves ........ Number one priority is to get to the end of race one in one piece !

I dont kick off until April. The feeder series tend to have less weekends. For full championships I used to do 14 rounds across 10 /11 weekends - which is too much. The Jedi is now over 7 weekends, all double headers, which works a lot better (so long as you dont break the car between races).

I bet your clio is eligible for some of the CSCC stuff too. But I've no doubt that you have your hands full this year anyway.

Thanks Hugh, I'm sure the car is eligible for plenty of series, but I imagine there is a big difference between eligibility and competitiveness. This year is, very much, an experiment to see whether either we, (or the car) are any good at racing or whether we should stick to trackday pub bragging .........
More to the point any more days / weekends spent playing with cars (Pork or otherwise) might quickly lead to a swift divorce ! (I've already been put on notice !)
