My Porsche insurance, big increase!

Always shop around, you'd be silly not to then go back to your insurer and see if they can match it.

Members on other Porsche forums have noticed a sharp increase in insurance premiums as well.

Unfortunately just had our quote for 4 cars on multi car it went through the roof .

A call to the company they got 3 down but still way over last year's premium but better, the 4th car a Macan they could get nowhere near with another company it was £200 less expensive so a no brainer it was moved.

Yes could have moved all cars but a real faff so went with the 3 multi car for another year but will seriously have to look at the situation next time.

All the best getting a better quote.

Sorry if this subject has been covered before, but had a shock today with an email from A. Flux Ins. informing me of my new premium, which I need to pay in the next few weeks for my Cayman 718 -T, This is my fun car and isn’t used that much probably doing around 3,000 miles a year. Last year I paid £660, there now wanting over £1,000. Is this the norm, should I shop about?
my daily run around, which I changed this year has nearly similar performance as the Porsche and the insurance is probably the third of the cost. Maybe somebody is telling me something - time to own one car!

Hi Philip, by way of comparison I paid £364 in May for 4000 p/a on Boxster valued at 40k. I use broker A Plan, insurance co is KGM.

Same here Andrew for my 987.2 CS with ClassicLine on 3k miles a year and an agreed valuation. Slightly greater increase compared with last year undoubtedly due to inflationary effects.

Although it’s sometimes overlooked, their cover includes the significant bonus of full UK and European breakdown assistance.

Hello all, thanks for your replies/advice. I think the obvious is yes I need to shop about

I did read in the Telegraph, That car insurance has rocketed this year 64% increase. Anyway it’s something I will address Monday morning, let you know the outcome, I was expecting some form of increase but that was taking my eyes out, disappoints me when you’re trying to be loyal to a company you been with for a number of years

Quite ...

In past experience all the brokers that I have used - given loyalty to behave in much the same way

ClassicLine being the only insurer in recent times NOT to join the cost increase bandwagon for me, they use Ageas. Makes one wonder how they do it and others do not / can not ?

For non Porsche I use Admiral direct and Zurich via the brokerage Marsh

Just had my Saga renewal for my BGTS 4.0. Last year was £380 renewal is £670.

Shopping around I can get this down to £580 with LV so will be moving, but insurance premiums certainly have rocketed. Wife's Leaf went from £160 to £350 also. Fortunately LV seem to be very competitive as they quoted £180 for that.

Thanks Jeff,

Interesting reading, I don't think it's just car insurance either, my house insurance went up by over 35% and it was still the best deal I could get.

Glad I locked my Macan in to a £168 Saga 3 year fixed price policy last year which even at the time seemed very competitive. Even more so now😁

I'm with Admiral for all 3 of my cars, 718 Cayman included.

I got my renewal in May, went from £1276 the previous year to £3798 for this year (that's all 3 cars).

So I called them, told them that I had better quotes from other companies (which was true) and that I wanted to leave. In the end I got the renewal down to £932.72, so it's always worth calling them and seeing what they'll do for you.

When I changed my MINI Clubman a month later for an identical model (just newer and a different colour) it went down again to £881.40.

For context the 3 cars I've got insured are my 718 Cayman, MINI Clubman JCW and BMW 420i.

A word of caution for PCGB members with Admiral. Posted from another section on here.
Admiral's "Organised motoring event" exclusion & PCGB group drives
So I have my Cayman covered on a dual-car policy with Admiral. Back when I took the policy out, I contacted them via telephone to query the "organised motoring event" exclusion that I had noticed on the policy document. Specifically it states:
General Exceptions
h. used to participate in any test, competition or organised motoring event Sounded ominous but their support told me not to worry, it is intended for things like rallying which is backed up by this mention on one of their magazine guides:
11. Driving in unusual locations
We don’t cover you for driving your car in dangerous or unusual places like racecourses. We also won’t cover you for organised motorsports or rallying. Your policy book can let you know more, and you can always contact us through webchat if you’re confused. Then I started to hear lots of talk about Admiral potentially not covering PCGB drives. At first, I thought this was scaremongering so set out to confirm. It took some months and persistence but they finally got their underwriters to answer the following coverage scenarios that I had put to them: 1. A driver training day at CAT Driver Training 2. A PCGB tour of Scotland 3. A Sunday morning drive with other members of PCGB 4. Displaying my car in a field at PCGB event 5. Driving my car near my house with a friend who owns a Jaguar F-Type Of these five scenarios, only the last was covered by my policy. Glad it happens to be up for renewal in the next two weeks!"

I'm a new Porsche owner and I recently insured my 981 Cayman with Admiral (alongside a second family car) with a Multi-Car policy.

I'm canceling with Admiral because their windscreen policy means they will only contribute £50 towards the cost of an OEM (Porsche approved) windscreen. Unfortunately for me, I recently had an episode with a cracked windscreen and I was informed that in order to extend my warranty, I would need to ensure there were no non-OEM parts installed, else the car would be considered "modified" by Porsche. As a consequence, I've had to pay for an OEM windscreen out my own pocket (around 1k) to make that happen as my insurance was basically useless in this scenario.

I've since cancelled my Admiral policy and moved to Lockton, who have assured me that should my windscreen (or other car parts) require replacing in future, I can expect genuine parts to be used. Of course Lockton is more expensive than Admiral but now I can be sure that if the worst happens, I can have the car repaired using parts the manufacturer intended.

I just wish I knew all of this beforehand - had I insured the vehicle with Lockton in the first place, I would have simply had to pay a small excess.

Moral of the story: when it comes to insurance, cheapest is NEVER best. Also, you always get what you pay for!

Just for info:

My Boxster, 987.2 2009, 2.9 litre.

I've owned it for 6 years so 6 years NCB, last 4 years have been with LV

Last year was £235.97 and this year's invitation is £355.43, about a 50% increase.

Nothing has changed, no claims, no points, just me a year older (now 71)

They exhaustively explained why cost rises etc are reflected in the renewal.

I will look at what else there is, but prefer to insure through big organisations only, so will probably grin and bear it.

How come 50% increase is down to cost increases of parts etc and labour rates in garages?

I feel a sense of Rip-Off TBH.

Graham,

Apparently it’s not just the increased cost of parts, labour and energy costs. It seems that the cost of paint has risen dramatically too, adding to the cost of repairs.

For reference, my ClassicLine insurance on the 987.2 CS increased by about 10% from last year.

Hi all, got sorted yesterday. went shopping about, not that easy, certainly time-consuming. All a bit of a pain really, but it’s been worthwhile. had cheaper quote via a recommendation, although on-line reviews not great, a few customers had trouble communicating once they had a claim! A lot of these brokers will use all sorts of insurance Co. - so cheapest not always the best, anyway gone with Aviva on a multicar scheme, price seems okay for next 12 months. The UK/World lost a lot of businesses in Covid year, but the people who have survived it, must be milking it now! Thanks for all input on this topic, just need for the rain to stop, Lawn waterlogged, and that’s in the height of the summer
