My Porsche insurance, big increase!

Good to hear, just don't PPF your car as Aviva don't cover cars with PPF or it invalidates your policy in event of a claim.

Great post! Aviva underwrite the Lockton policy so I will get this clarified else I may have to give any PPF plans a miss.

Just put the Boxster into Go Compare. LV quote is £10 more than my renewal. All quotes from the big people, Hastings etc are a touch more or into the 400's. Looks like an auto renewal.

In case it helps anyone: I spoke to Lockton Insurance (they are under-written by Aviva). They confirmed that adding PPF will not be classed as a "modification", and hence no change to the premium and vehicle will be 100% covered, but they do ask that if the vehicle has it, then it should be declared on the paperwork.

A friend is an estimator for a large group of "insurance approved" repairers and when I mentioned the cost of my 718 Spyder renewal this year, he said to be aware that some insurers have a "green" clause in their small print that allows the insurer to specify the use of reclaimed parts for a repair so long as its not a "safety critical" part such as suspension, brakes, steering etc.

Second-hand replacement panels, lights, trim etc rather than new can be fitted............................

I expect we all have different views as to what is safety critical but ultimately, your insurer makes the decision..............

Regards

Bill

Just noticed the post and thought I’d add to it regarding my Macan Turbo renewal - been with NFU for 5-years and renewal due September. Quote was 24.5% up on last year which was after my £128 discount for 5-years in the mutual. Called them and they offered 2 solutions: first was to reduce my mileage; second was to increase my contribution should I need to claim. Shopped around and saved £200 by going to SAGA with all the protection, business use etc included. NFU won’t see me again….

Glad you got a great deal. My word of warning is just to make sure your policy suits your needs. I’ve learnt the hard way after purchasing from Admiral and then finding they were only willing to contribute £50 towards the cost of a genuine Porsche windscreen (which I needed to keep my extended warranty alive). Cheaper isn’t always best 😉

Got my renewal quote in at the end of last month. It had increased by £2 from last year, taking it to the dizzying sum of £181. I was more than happy to pay that, so didn't shop around. My car's a nice day toy so I only cover between 2-3k miles pa. On the other hand, my van insurance jumped by £130 this year. I've never had a claim on any policy. Insurance companies are just crooks in suits.

so many gripes and so much misunderstanding about insurance

an individuals record actually has little to do with the premium

lower mileage doesnt always mean a lower premium

single driver doesnt always mean a lower premium

long NCB doesnt always mean a lower premium

Glad you got a good deal with Saga.

I had 3 cars with them for around 15 years but their increases this year ranged from 35 to 50% and they wouldn't budge. LV were far more competitive with a higher mileage allowance and slightly lower excesses. Just no logic sometimes as LV were the underwriters for the Boxster Saga policy🤔

At least insurers are now required to offer renewing customers a price that is no higher than they would pay as a new customer. I’m not sure that’s a great concession!🤔

Anyone used a company like reduce my excess? You pay a premium (think it is £70) and they cover all of your car's excess up to £750, you can only claim once I believe (per year). Helps to reduce your insurance premiums if it works of course.

Insuring your insurance?

if it's not your fault you can claim the xs from the 3rd party at fault

As strange aa people who use mats to protect their mats..

How come 50% increase is down to cost increases of parts etc and labour rates in garages?

I feel a sense of Rip-Off TBH.

The following are contributing to increased costs:

- energy costs (businesses aren't protected by the government guarantee)

- cost of raw materials (inc paint)

- labour costs

- parts shortages/delays extending repair time & therefore courtesy car costs

- some repairers now charging storage fees once vehicles are on site for / awaiting repairs

There also seems to be a lot of car thefts now, especially in central London. Anyone with Lockton may have seen the bulletins.

In theory, the FCA ruling a couple years ago stopped insurers from applying the loyalty premium, meaning the price for an existing & new customer have to be the same. However, believe some big insurers get around this by looking at entry channel, meaning it's probably worth ringing to see if a different premium is offered to the online price.
