you are the undisputed king of photos[:D]

Thanks Dylan [:)]

However, I am not much of a photographer...but it sure makes it easier when you have good subjects to capture [8D]

(photoshop helps too [;)])

Alex,

Love the wheels... what make are they, you mentionned light weight HRE wheels?

I'm getting delivery of my Turbo early July so I'm very interested with old the upgrade you have done. Is your car still under warranty? I got in touch with cargraphics and was thinking of visiting them this summer when I finally get the car.

PS Don't know how good oof a photographer you are... I'm still struggling to upload a picture...

If you can't work it out, (size etc are quite vital), then email it to me and I am happy to host it, which is the easiest way and free of charge..

Wheels are 19" HRE P40 in powdered silver finish. The P43's look great also and I don't know many who have got them so would be very unique. South West Tyres in Bristol are the HRE UK distributors.

P43 pics: http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/997-turbo/6201-20-p43s-997tt-got-say-looks-incredible.html

Also the CG exhaust comes with it's own 2 year warranty, however if you have your ECU remapped as part of a powerkit then you void your Porsche engine warranty. Parr near Gatwick are the CG UK distributors.

[:(] [:(] [:(] I wish I had a car I could rave about! [] []
I do believe your time will come Clive [8D]

and you have a 6 page appreciation thread going [;)]

Alex, I followed step by step as per your explanation.... Got in to the program (bucketshop) but kept on fighting with the file size (please confirm the option) as my camera's pictures are between 1 and 1.5 mb... Finally I succeeded (or I hoped I had) in reducing the size till it was accepted, it then got stuck uploading .... 30 min later... still uploading!!! so I just gave up... :-(((

Any comments on the comparison in "Total911" between the GT3 and the Turbo? the writer casted his vote for the GT3 as he claimed it is a more involving car.... Personally I wonder in day to day use which one would is the wiser choice? I opted for the Turbo...

What is the standard make fitted to the turbo? or is there an option?

If you are windows then I suggest you install the WinXP image resizer tool from Microsoft that I mention in my post. That will reduce a 3MB file down to about 800KB if you select the 'large' option. Then you can change the options in Photobucket to allow all files under 1MB and it won't touch anything you upload (will be vastly quicker too).

If you are on a Mac then you may have to suffer the slow uploads and Photobucket shrinking the files once loaded.

You can turn a Turbo into a track car with just a few aftermarket changes, but you can't get the power and torque of the Turbo from a GT3 no matter what you do to it.

No sure what you are referring to in your last point?!

Thanks for the above, last point was reffering to the tyres... Oups!!

Francois

I took my tyres off my OEM factory wheels and put them straight onto my HRE wheels.

You don't get a choice of tyres from the factory. If I had then I would have requested: Michelin's > Pirelli's > Bridgestone's in that order.

I got my first clutch slip today in 6th gear with an ambient temperature of 7 degC. I floored it with over-boost off (1.0 bar) from about 50 mph. I couldn't get it to do it again even with overboost (1.2 bar) in 5th gear downwards.

I can still smell the burnt clutch an hour of driving after it happened.

Does this mean I need a new clutch or is one clutch slip no big deal? Saying that, I did have a similar thing reversing up a steep hill back in 2008 in Switzerland, the smell lasted for about 20 mins then.

I know I have 798Nm torque with my CG544 kit which exceeds the factory clutch tolerances; perhaps I need a whole upgraded clutch kit?

Eg. Cargraphic Clutch

Or perhaps just an upgraded pressure plate?

My car only has 17k miles on the clock so I would rather not change the whole clutch out unless I really need to.

Would appreciate your thoughts...

(also opinions on single mass flywheels please as part of that kit mentioned above)

Porsche clutches do pong when they get hot - as I know only too well! [&:] but the only one I ever changed was oil contaminated, not worn.

With the mods. you've had done, I would have thought an uprated clutch would be more or less essential. Try it under load uphill in a high gear and see what it's like.

If you need a replacement, I would definitiely go for the non dual mass flywheel.

Good luck.

Clive

Alex

Agree with Clive - when my clutch goes, I'll get a heavy duty job, the factory x51 came with an upgraded clutch anyway.

Ian from Porscheshop is trying to tempt me with a single mass flywheel at the moment.............

In depth discussions going on on another forum right now:

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/997-turbo-gt2/202994-new-clutch-required.html

Single mass flywheel seems to have it's pluses and minuses.

Parr have recommended I see how it goes in coming weeks as to whether I need a new clutch. I think if I do upgrade them I will go the whole hog and not just the pressure plate, as it's 10+ hours labour either way.

Alex

that link is pretty mucht he conversation I had with Ian on the pros and cons. When the clutch finally goes I am prbably better off with a sachs, not much more incremental cost to change the flywheel at the same time but it will, be noisier and harder to use round town (much easier to stall) - more for a toy, less for an everyday car.........
