My wife! wants to drive the 993

Dear All, A cautionary tale:

a long but not forgotten 'Ex' was given the keys to the carrera 3.2 while her car was being serviced.

That evening we were out for a meal with friends, and I was bemoaning that I had to tidy up the car the next day to take some photos required an for the Insurance approved valuation.

Brazen hussy that she is ( bless ) , she did not have the good grace to look even the slightest bit sheepish at this point..............................................................that is not until the next morning, when she just happend to mention she had had a 'little moment' [:-]in the car, and I was told how an obviously very small and extremely unobtrisive concrete bollard had jumped out of nowhere in broad, sunny daylight -

the passenger wing now bears the gentle caress of concrete as a loving reminder........[]

ps she'd also parked the car facing away from the house - so I wouldn't see when I got home!!!! ooooh the witch!

With regards to the heaviness of the 993 - the 3.2 is MUCH heavier than the 993. I think it's got something to do with it not having power steering.[;)] I'm not saying the 993's an easy drive - after a mondeo or other modern car, it's always going to be heavy. But that's why I like it - you still feel like you're driving it. I drove a boxster and it's got nothing on the 993 for grin factor IMHO.

As for the rest of you (not all of you, granted!) - you should be ashamed of yourselves!! Let your wife drive your car, you never know, she might like it and then as someone above said, she may not have so much of a problem when you want to spend the holiday fund on new suspension! She might actually begin to understand what all the fuss is about....

Ruth - Zwhitea's wife...:p

Well, it's nearly ten years since I sold my 3.2, so my memory may be a bit rusty. I guess it was really heavy at parking speeds compared to the 993, due to lack of power assistance. At speed though, it weighted up nicely, giving much more direct feel than the 964/993 I have to say. Truly a memorable car.

My girlfriend drives the 993 no problem (she is 5' 7"). She loves it. She takes quite a while to get used to the clutch again after stepping out of her automatic Merc though. I guess the answer is for her to drive it more often. (Gulp)

My wife, the proud possessor of a Cooper S, flatly refuses to drive "Roger".Which is a pity 'cos I have to go careful on the ale when we're out lunching.I blame myself, for showing off when I bought him.

All divorce lawyers and relationship counsellors should read these posts most carefully.

They say something but, for the life of me, I cannot imagine what it is without checking with my better half [:D] [8|] [:D]

My missus had a go in my 3.2 once. And only once... she got it into 2nd gear after nearly standing on the clutch... went round a roundabout (with me grabbing the steering wheel when she couldn't pull it over quick enough) and stopped, got out and swore never to try again. How happy was I?

She's had a go in the 993 since, and said it was 'like a normal car'. However I'm not giving her the keys, she tailgates and thinks the best way to come to a halt is an emergency stop 6in from the car in front. The pedals are closer together in the 993 and I don't fancy the repair bill if she hits the accelerator by mistake...
