Nearly new 944!

I wouldn't want it. You couldn't use it as the millage is too low.It would cost a fortune to get it up to scratch ( as soon as you start putting miles on it it would leak every fluid through every dried up rubber)
It's a car for a museum and a bit of a shame if you ask me. Who ever bought this car new and didn't use it basically wasted its life by letting it sit and not letting it do what it was born to do.

Also it's missing the tow eye cover on it's nose.
Ok there is 10,000 miles between 16, and 26,000 miles but when I bought my 944 Turbo cab in 2007 with 26,790 miles on the clock it did not haemorrage fluids the moment I started using it. It still doesn't need any coolant since it was changed last, and only uses a ltire of oil between services. In some yesrs the cars service history show 500 miles in a year for three consecutive years. None of the wheel beraings drone, and the were no fluid leaks from the struts at February's mot. Even the roof is watertight and when I drove it today it feels as toght as my 996 cab with now 46,000 miles on the odometer. The heat of running the engine and the chemical reaction between hot oil and the seal is what leaches out the plasticiser surely; otherwise new (old stock) seals for every nook and cranny on the 944 would be leaking. The point here is that the car's done 4 years without a service. I'm sure the stories of oil being useless after that time, and the engine being knackered, are rubbish, but it points to lack of care, which is a consideration when buying what's up as the "best of the best". £50 on an oil change each year seems sensible: the car wasn't laid-up, it was being used occasionally, so presumably it had an MOT each year.

If a 944 is laid-up, it will suffer. My lux needed all new oil seals after 18 months in a cosy underground garage in the south of France. That's probably not an issue here, as the car's done some miles each year. Keeping everything lubricated regularly does make a difference.

The other thing is the parts that age, regardless of mileage. I'd suggest that things like window seals, door seals etc. will be better on this car than one that's sat in the sun for 25 years, but they won't be as new. As with tyres, perishable parts perish even if they are covering 500 miles a year instead of 10k miles.

 
Worth every penny in my book, that car has been well stored, it reaks of it, valeted or not....................you could always go and buy a brand new Kia something for about that money !!!
New belts and away you go, a solid investment if you were to use it sparingly, as previously mentioned the Dino.
I have driven Porsche in their various incarnations and the 944 drives and feels better than quite a lot of the more sought after models to me. [;)]
Stop talking the 944 down, as it is not.
 
If this was a turbo I'd buy it in the morning. But then again, if it was a turbo I suppose it wouldn't be this cheap. That said, I still think its cheap and a sensible enough investment for someone that only wants to do a low annual mileage.

Surely one of you members of the "S2 is the best 944" club want it?!
 
SAves yer money. My 944 T cab will be up or sale soon. Ive just laid out 1k for a new hood and spent 1500 on a front pu respray, o.s.r wheel arch perforation repair, and repaint of the n/s rear 1/4 due to over enthusiastic buffing by an idiot detailer who left such a thin layer of laquer that when I looked at it with my porter cable I was through to the white primer. Jeez he went at it so hard he even buffed through the E and part of the lhs pinstriping on the rear Porsche decal. I did the belts and rollers nov 2011. would cruise all day long at 90 if you happened to be using the M4 to go to Specialised Paints. I'm thinking 14 1/2 is a realistic price for 46,000 miles. Good honest car.
 
If you want a 944 that probably feels and drives like a new car then this is a perfect example. The value of the car if used as a 2nd or 3rd car in Summer months will not depreciate that much if you add 1500-3000 miles a year.

It is great to see our cars climbing up into the 5 figures but until it sells it can be advertised at whatever price they like.

As others have said once the rot boxes have been broken up and there are only better cars available to buy as they become less available we should see the prices of 944's climb up to a more realistic level for what is a superbly built and great handling car [:D]
 
I would just like to say I think the car is worth every penny of it's asking price. If it was a mk2 escort it would be worth a lot more.I think the 944 will rise in price over the next few years. And it should as they are fantastic cars. But I don't want a low millage car, I want a car that I can drive and enjoy without worrying about putting miles on it. That is why I have spent a small fortune building a good solid 944s2. Not cause I cant afford a Boxster or a 911 but because I wanted a 944.

Agree Colin, if this was a MK2 RS2000 it would be over £30,000 and probably nearer to £40,000 [:-]
 
I am mortified at the values of Mk2 escorts and RS2000's.. Back when I was 18 to 20 years old I worked on Porsche cars but could never afford one, let alone insure one, so my friends and I used to play with MK2 escorts, Mexico's, RS2000's etc... We used to buy MOT failed ones for £50 to £200 (2 door automatic MK2's were our favourite, RS2000's were broken up for their crossmembers, sumps, gearboxes etc) and we used to buy Austin Princesses just for their front brake calipers!! Now these cars, which could have easily been saved, but were not worth anything, are worth a fortune.. Yet back then everyone expected other cars to be the future classics, no one expected an RS2000 to ever be worth Ferrari 348 money!

We had some fun though, I often wish I could find a 2 door automatic MK2 escort shell now for reasonable money, so I could do what I wanted to do when I was 18, but lacked the cash!
 
I regret selling a number of 2.4l 911s. All for next to nothing. One was a white with blue detail 2.7lRS rep too!

If you want a perfect 944 that you can drive and money is no object then buy the model of your choice and send it back to Porsche's own restoration service and get it back like new. I would love to do this just to see how much it would cost,unfortunately I haven't won the lottery or even bought a ticket so I wont be doing it for a while.
