New 944 owner. A little help, if you please!?

ps post a pic of the car in the colours thread at the top - dont think we have that colour yet, unusual and looks good!

sorry, arrows are on the other picture nearer the top of the post...

Willl have a look under the tape....

The airbox only really has 1 screw holding it in, the others are either snapped off or thread stripped. Will try to fix with some other method.

Ah a cunning swap of photos - yes that is the temp sensor but the pump should run whether that is working or not - the 30 second run on is irespective of temperature. Grounding that wire to the engine should also make the pump run.

1 screw is bad - unfiltered air will get in around the filter and it doesnt take much dirt to kill a turbo at high speed.
Occasionally the bolts that hold the AFM to that filter box work loose this may be due to flexing of the filter box (with missing screws) they go into the turbo and kill it.

I had the pipe that comes off the turbo split I didn't realise immediately what had happened - couldnt see the split just the low boost - increased the boost to compensate ( I have an electronic boost controller) the air filter actually got sucked down across the air filter box outlet - that was with one missing screw.

This very problem killed my engine and cost me thousands of pounds (it was worth it tho [:)])

A complete new airbox, with snorkel and filter costs £170 from Exeter OPC

Your boost level is healthy, though a tiny bit high for a standard 86 car, should be a max of 0.8bar IIRC. As long as you are not running lean, the car will be fine at that boost level

The belts are definately due asap if they are older than 3 years

The 'wobbly switch' is like that on most cars and can still work fine, I think your lack of 30 second run on could be the relay. Where in the country are you as you may be able to try someones who lives local before swapping parts willy nilly

welcome Arum.......... nice motor
The issue with your central locking. Do you mean when you operate it from outside the car / with a remote keyfob? these are linked to your aftermarket alarm system cos as far as I know they were never an option. You could try something obvious like changing the min 12v battery inside the fob . Or just check and clean the battery contacts. Your fob transmitter may be acting up.

thanks Peanut... The key fob is doing it's job, as it works for the passenger's door, just not the driver's. I can hear the motor working, it just doesn't push the lock so I suspect it's the plastic bar as Diver944 suggests.

yeah my plastic bar had a tendancy to pop off, its now held in place with an elastic band or two[:)], has worked for months now

Just found the invioce for my replacement:

P/N is 944.537.511.00 and it was £1.37 plus vat

Its possible worth buying two and changing both doors at the same time as sure enough my other side sailed within a year of the first [8|]

yes it was the plastic bar. Fixed it with superglue, put it all back together and tested it. worked fine for 2 actuations and then failed[]. took it all out again, fixed it with some wire this time and it's fine since [:D]

thanks for that one. just got to get the rest sorted now...
