Sadly I've spent about £10,000 on mine in just a year and a half (and that's not including purchase cost or the crippling insurance cost I have, probably be over £20k with that included) it's just because I'm so fussy and now I'm bored with it.
I agree about a car needing to have character something which the new BMWs or Porsches I've driven have not got much of if any and although the 997 Carrera S with sports exhaust I drove whilst at work the over day had a nice sound to it, it just did not have much else going for it and besides an air cooled 911 sounds better as does a TVR hence why I want one.

At risk of taking this thread further off topic, I wouldn't buy a TVR.

We did last years 944 dyno day at whatever Weltmeister is called now and they are into TVRs, or they share a workshop with a compnay that is. Regardless there were a number of TVRs around and on ramps. It is no exaggeration to say I was shocked by the way they are built. They use lovely aluminum castings for nonsense like the glove box hinges and make important stuff like the suspension from 1" box section steel, which which looks hand welded and they don't even bother to paint properly hence it is rusting fromt he second it hits the road. Utter rubbish doesn't begin to cover what I think of TVRs after seeing that.

Also consider that a "TVR bhp" is equivalent to (at a guess) 0.35 real bhp. They are gutless unless you get the supposedly 400bhp plus models. I test drove a nearly new Chimaera 4.0 from whatever Straight Eight used to be called in Exeter and it was not even nearly as quick as the 911 Carrera 3.0 I had at the time (which to save you looking up is a 200bhp 911 immediately predating the SC). I told the salesman when I took it back (and kudos as he let me take it out on my own) that it was far too slow. He didn't argue, just tried for the following 2 months to get me into a 5.0 version (which sadly never happened).

Awful, awful cars.

A belated welcome - and that is indeed a lovely colour and a great looking car. I do think older cars have more personality and I would say that its down to two things.

1) The fact they were more often styled by an individual and not at the behest of either a commitee, focus group or the tyranny of the wind tunnel so it was one persons or a small group of peoples vision and concept and not a bland compromise that so many machines are these days (and even the flaws of older machines are part of that character imo)

2) Without all the electronic gizmos that modern cars come with you naturally feel more connected to the mechanical goings on beneath your right foot and posterior and hence to the road and driving experience itself.

I agree about TVR's - also saw a number up on the ramps at Weltmeister and couldn't believe the state of their chassis nor the frequancy they had to return to get them derusted and repaired. Shocking and cured me of the desire to get one, though not of the that of getting something with a big V8 in one day...

LOL, when I had almost given up hope of finding a decent 944T I started considering a Tiv, I think the Griff & Chim look and sound amazing, the build quality is dodgy, but I think for a sunny day blast and at £5 or 6k they aren't that terrible.

On the straights. [:D]
