New 951 owner - wheels question.

I have a spare set of Clubsports with barely legal tyres, they are rare but there's little demand so they aren't worth all that much. PM me if you haven't already found a set & we might be able to do a swap or something.
I'm looking for an original set of wheels for my '89 Turbo and would be really interested if you still have yours for sale/swap.

Now sold, good to meet you & compare your car to mine Tom [:D]

On a similar note & bearing in mind some of the comments about 17" wheels being a popular upgrade for many here, how much would a set of these17" rims in good original condition with good (road) tyres be worth? They are the same style as Paul Smith's ones. I know Cup1 & Cup2 styles are in big demand but I don't know about these.

I have three sets of these Malc and they all came with useable tyres. The two sets from Ebay were £300 and £250 and I bought a set privately from a 968 forum user for £350. They are not as 'in demand' as Cup I or II and there are far more around as they were standard on many Boxtser and 996 whose owners upgraded at a later date.

Supply and demand dictates you can get some bargains [:D]

As for ride quality one can always adjust tyre pressures and choose the tyre carefully.

Even when adjusting tyre pressure the 17" rims do not match the 16" rims in term of ride quality.
I spent a complete day with a set of Cup 2 shod with S-02 to find a set up and driving situations where I would find the ride "better" than with the 16", to no avail. Quite disappointing, as they nicely improved the looks over the D90.

With regards to the 16" vs 17" debate 17" add stability at the price of consequently losing the swiftness of the ride with 16" rims. So it's down to personal taste.

PS : this is what I have observed with very lightly modified cars. With loads of torque low profile tyres may of course be much required.

Thanks Paul, that's useful info. Three sets? Your garage must be rather bigger than mine [;)]

It was a pleasure to meet you too Malc.

I will post up some pics of all three sets of wheels fitted to the car when I get the chance. It will be interesting to see what people think...

Had a set of original Boxster wheels on my S2 cost £500 including almost new tyres, I thought they were spot on. Have a set of Club sports now they look right on the car, much better than the D90's, not sure why. 2/3 weeks ago a set of very good OE CS's went for just over £400 on evil bay

Right, got the car back. Looks better on the 16s to my eye and handling and ride seems improved too.

If Paul's reading this, I'll get the pics of the other wheels to you tomorrow :)

That's a real beauty Chris, I wanted a black one with a Linen interior but had to settle for the other way round []

Probably would have worked out OK if the comparison was S0-2 on 16" rims and something mega smooth riding like contisportcontact2 or 3's on 17" rims.

Like Hilux, I fitted flexi fuel hose with proper (not Jubilee) clips, double crimped. The clips were 25p each from a local motor factor, (8 required) and about a metre of flexi hose (which is used under the bonnet above the exhaust manifold[:D] in every 944) which cost about a tenner. 25k miles on, no problem. (Better than new I'd say)
Also have a 3 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulator[8|]
About 3 hours to drain the tank, fit a fuel filter and replace the corroded metal pipes over the transaxle.
Not a pleasant job, but not difficult either.

Agree the 16" decision you made, and a lovely example of a 944 you have too.
Hope you enjoy it
