New 964 Owner

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, and for the tips on my questions.

Yes, I've learned the hard way with Porsche ownership. Bought an example of a 944 six years ago, which wasn't bad but had a lot of maintenance overdue. Cost me more than the value of the car in the first 2 years. This time I was determined to buy the best example I could find within reason. Certainly some jobs to sort out but with a little love and attention (and cash) should be fine.

No doubt we'll be speaking again.....[:D]

Search the internet for the bulbs Neil. They are @ £6 odd +VAT from an OPC or about 99p on the net - I think the site is autobulbs.co.uk or something like that and there are 2 (I think) on the oil temp/level gauge

The first one i.e. the shorter one looks like the chap you want. The longer one has exposed contacts on the base which is not what the ones from the OPC were like. Also, the base looks more in proportion with the shorter one.

Neil,
The dials are just held in by friction, in as you say a rubber gromet. If they have never been out they can be a pain. The lip of the ring sits around the dial, the bit you can't see is the rest of the gromet which is about 1/2" deep into the dash. I wrapped a piece of insulation tape around the end of a flat nose screwdriver and slowly worked around the dial to prise it from the dash. A light spary of wd4o between the dial and gomet helped release it. Believe me if it hasn't be out for 18 years it will have a firm grip. The clock took me the best part of a hour to remove !! .... patience .... little by little [;)]

Paul, will do, thanks for the tip. I found this write-up, which shows light blue based bulbs alongside the yellow based ones. Are these for the multitude of warning lights? And if so, what wattage are they? The closest match on the page linked to earlier are the 1.2W blue based bulbs.

Those ones are 0.9W and you're right, they are for the warning lights. The base is actally a green colour

Thanks Ian. Though, bit of a shaky start, it's been to my local specialist already with a siezed starter motor. Tom (Ferguson) tells me this can happen as a result of all the dust/dirt from the clutch landing in the engage mechanism. Anyway, got the car back today and have been out for a nice long drive [:)]

Welcome back to 911 ownership [:)]. To update your profile you need to e-mail the office with your user name and membership number and ask them to update it for you.

er...how do I email the office?

Just checked the PCGB homepage and no email addresses indicated for anyone []
