New 997 + Aerokit + Turbo wheels

Hi Julian,

We did the final spec of the car on 3rd June, for a July build and August delivery, which we collected 1 Sept. When we did the final spec the sales guy mentioned that the Turbo wheels has just become a cost option.
We asked to have a look at one in-the-flesh but were told we couldn't as all they had was one set attached to a 997 Turbo and no-one at all could see it as it was under wraps until the official launch - we couldn't even look at the wheels!!

One other thing i'd recommend (a question of taste...) is the stainless steel illuminated door sills. My girlfriend (a fan of `Pimp My Ride') really wanted these and they looked like subtle bling (if there's such a thing) so we went for it. I have to say they make me smile every time I open the door at night / in the dark as your eye is drawn to the glowing "Carerra S" on the sill. Top drawer!!

Cheers

Steve i wish you hadnt posted those pics. Ive saved them and cant stop looking at the bloody things. Does the kit bottom out on speed bumps or is it okay on most. Could you give me a kind of general picture on how it effects normal driving, car parks are out for me anyway as i dont leave the boxster in them but it would be good to know. The other thing is the bottom part separate, i was wondering if i replace do i have to replace the whole thing.
Thanks

Hi Bax,

I've only done 500 miles so far but I've had no problems at all with sleeping policemen / speed bumps. Even the ones where your wheels go either side of the bump have not troubled the lip of the spoiler. The trouble has been on steep ramps.
I've not noticed it affect the driving in any situation (back roads / A roads / motorway) though these have all been driven fairly softly while running in.

Yes the very bottom strip is separate to the rest, though I'm not sure how easy it is to pry apart and replace. Earlier on this topic Blaine54 mentioned the possibility of a rubber retrofit from the Turbo / GT3 - not sure if s/he's had any luck on that?

A little dissapointing is that, although it's a factory fit, the button on the dash to raise / lower the standard rear spoiler is still there despite it being replaced with a fixed wing.

Cheers

Steve

The OPC have yet to get back to me so no answer yet, but as the part numbers are a little different they needed to contact Porsche in Germany. I'll give you an update when I get it, but when I compared the front spoiler next to a turbo they didn't look worlds apart....As for praticality, the only real clearance issues I've had over the last 3 months have been leaving my drive, which I need to take at an angle or the neighbours curtains start twitching & the carousel at the nurbergring which gave it a bit of a rub. Speed bumps if taken carefully are fine, but a pain so I just stay clear. Like you I was a bit unsure if the kit was a bit to much, but it makes me smile every time I open the garage door . Must admit though I like the turbo wheels they do set it off nicely & after seeing a white aero kitted C4S in Germany I fancy that as my next colour.

Enjoy it, just be carefull on those ramps

Thanks Steve, took a significant step toward ordering yesterday when opc came through with a very good offer based on problems id been having with a hard top. Going down to test c4s on saturday to see if the extra 44mm width and 4wd are worth the extra. If you have any more photos it would be great to see them.
Thanks
Bax
