New Boxster 987 Owner - Checking In

Just thought I'd give a bit of an update as its been a busy / expensive but hugely enjoyable few months with the Boxster S. Unfortunately it ended up being off the road for approximately 3 months after my exhaust headache.... I managed to source a new RHD silencer from 9Apart (great guys) and everything was sent off to Gert @Carnewal. Carnewal managed to turn the exhaust around quite quickly.... and once back I decided to refurbish the older LHD side because I was slightly OCD about having a new silencer one side and used rusty one on the other. Therefore removed as much rust and dirt from the older silencer and painted it in high temp exhaust paint... not 100% match but good enough to satisfy my OCD and also good enough to protect the clearly valuable left hand side. I also coated both silencers in GTechniq High temp ceramic coating for added durability.

I also wanted a visual indicator of a new exhaust and I wasn't really a fan of the stock tips... therefore I went with a 981 S PSE chrome tips as advised by Gert at Carnewal - Apparently these also help to accentuate the exhaust note due to their double TT design.

After a significant amount of swearing and heat removing the rusty catalyst flange bolts (all replaced with stainless bolts) + new O2 sensors which got damaged in the process... the exhaust was finally back on...

Whilst the car was off the road I also decided to replace the standard steering wheel with a 'Sports Design' option wheel and have it all re-trimmed... plus the handbrake, gear gaitor and also went for an armrest with Porsche Crest embossed... all with Red accent stitching. Jury still out on the 12-oclock stripe... its growing on me.

I have also purchased some original Gloss Black Vents and de-snorkled (with one of those 3D printed mesh grilles).

Whilst my seatbelts were already Red (they were pretty tired) - so JW Autotrim sorted those for me also.

Plus last week I fabsil'd the roof.

Yesterday myself and my son managed our first regional PCGB drive out to Matlock for a Region 8 Pageant event and I was suprised at how well the 987 S stands up against many other cars x10 times the cost. The one major for me is that Carnewal Exhaust - WOW.....through the tree covered roads of Buxton, the Flat 6 rasp was incredible. Totally transforms the character and drama of the car.

Next on the list.... Full Service @Unique Bolton, Proper Exterior and Interior detail... New tyres, possibly discs and pads....

Few updates since last post as just about to put the car away into hibernation (and remove the front bumper).

Now had a Full Service at Unique Porsche in Bolton and also flew through MOT with no advisory. Carnewal sounds better than ever also!

Few updates....

Replaced CD changer with the Mr12v Bluetooth unit (althought still not added the mic lead). Also could do with a little piece of carpet to cover the bit that's missing lol

Pilot Sport 4S Fitted (x4)

Replaced the Boot Strut (as it kept falling on my head!) - Genuine Stabilus

Tried one of these Key Covers (reasonably cheap off eBay) - however the Key doesn't then engage in the ignition!

Got my hands on a Gloss Black Boxster S badge (you can get them direct from dealer) - Will be fitting after machine polish

Bit of a treat.... always liked the look of the aluminium look fuel caps...

Continued going to as many drives as I could and events.... this is Salon Prive with the club.

Missed this thread along the way, lovely car and so good to see it getting some miles on it, they all work better when used.

I seem to be clocking about 5K / year on my 987.2 and have had some irritating issues along the way getting to 68K.

Hope you are planning a busy 2022!

Thanks and appreciated.

Jobs over the winter...

1. Remove the front bumper to replace the condensers, install some mesh and get the AC working again with re-gas.

2. Like the paint the silver grille slats gloss black and the trim around the exhaust on the rear bumper so it all ties into gloss black theme. Wheels staying silver though!

3. Still need to fully detail and ceramic coat.

4. Install the mic to the Bluetooth unit.

5. Noticed many fixings on the car which could do with replacing...

Plus plan of road trip attack for 2022! Scotland definitely on the list... maybe a track day or two and start to explore the limits or my own capability he he.

Yep, I live in Scotland and love nothing more that going on road trips with my friends from Region 2. We have some truly spectacular quiet roads where we can stretch the Boxster's legs and revel in their fantastic handling in the corners which scare unsuspecting passengers.

In my opinion they are better than 911's.
