New Boxster Options

10hp gap would be totally lost if a heavy weight was in the Kman why do you think i am giving my kman onto my 9stone son!!

ChrisH Yes, the IPOD option is £217, not £225, my mistake there. As I understand it from the OPC salesman, it will give you Ipod control via the screen/multi-function steering wheel, so if you really enjoy your music, it might be a worthwhile option. As regards the LSD, I heard that the Cayman is a definite, but also that it is on the cards for the Boxster - it may have been in last weeks autocar, not sure. No reason why it couldn't be on both... Cheers Rob

Chris - why would anyone wait for the 4 cylinder Boxster? With a four cylinder it'll just be the same as a lot of other cars out there. One of my work colleagues has just got an Audi TTS and was saying that he just wish it sounded better - but there's no getting away from '4 cylinder blare'. A Boxster with 4 cylinders will lose all of its appeal for me. Just my 2p of course!

I can confirm that the 987 gen 2 will have a LSD, as it states in the latest Boxster "info pack" from OPC, only available on wheels option of 18"+. @Chris_911: Because it is lighter! And maybe faster than the 987 gen2, i.e. Boxster RS version. It's all about weight, anyway Porsche have to change the engine as the new 2010 laws will force CO2 levels of <135. That why I still got my Mk1 MR2 4 cylinder 1600cc, cos it's so much fun, but I still love the 986 at high speed, both very different cars. I like an new 987 gen 2 with PDK/LSD, but its value may drop like a brick when the 988 comes out, so I sitting on the fence for a while as my 986 is still so good to drive.[:)]

Is that all cars produced after this new law will be limited to less than 135g CO2/km? That'll be goodbye Rolls Royce then! Or is it a European law and vehicles built outside the EU will be exempt?

This proposal fixes an AVERAGE CO2 emission limit applicable to automotive manufacturers aimed at ensuring that AVERAGE emissions of new passenger cars registered in the European Union (EU) do not exceed 130 g CO2/km from 2012 onwards. So Ferrari can average all their cars across the Seat house hold However Porsche can of course now Average across all of VW I guess :)

Just returned from a visit to Nottingham Porsche Centre, the new blue is stunning (well I think so). It's called Aqua Blue metallic. I reckon that anyone buying a new Porsche should go and have a look in their local showroom, it's not on the car configurator. There wasn't a single grey or silver car in the showroom.

you can see the aqua blue on 2 lovely cabs(dereks and jonathans)on the 997 forum -it is really beautiful(imo)

Rob, My OPC says he does not believe the IPOD tracks will be displayed on the Audio screen, not good for £217. The Bluetooth option for phone contacts will be shown, if put in manually according to the manual - see details on the new CDR-30 audio system for how this works by selecting any of the 911 models on the Porsche.co.uk website. This is a £428 option. As it has now been posted seems LSD is an option on the Boxster, whether its worth it for road use is the question. I did find the inside wheel will spin when pulling out of junctions with the S's extra torque. The 3.4 v's the 2.9 engine is still open for me, isn't the clutch heavier on the 3.4? The dealer only has a TIP for me to try? I don't think the new Aqua Blue will suit the Boxster, light colours look best, but I haven't seen it in the flesh yet. Chris

Hi ChrisH Well, no surprise there - one OPC saying one thing and another centre something different...perhaps they just want to keep us guessing![:D] If it's not possible to access the IPOD remotely, that makes it pretty useless in my book, as I don't fancy opening the box under my left elbow to change tracks when driving![&:] Re: the LSD on the Cayman/Boxster, I suppose it's all to do with how spirited folk are on the road - I enjoy a bit of a blast when conditions allow, but can't say I've ever felt the need for an LSD on my car. Maybe if I tracked it, it might be more important. Horses for courses and all that. I can't comment on the 3.4 clutch as the only 3.4S I've driven was my Dad's and that was a Tip' box.. I wouldn't imagine it would be too heavy though. Cheers Rob
