I was looking to get a 3 year old 996 and when I went into a porsche dealers today they had a new model (second hand) boxster s sitting there.

Whats people thoughts on the new model? The car is just a standard S with only a couple of options and they want just over £40K for it.

thanks

PS does any one know if you can wire an ipod into the stereo ?

Old car was excellent but the new car is Excellent +++ as one would expect. Is the 987"S" on offer brand new or used? Test drive the pair and you will feel the differences for yourself

Not yet, (nor on 3 year old 996's), but a company called Denison claim to be be bringing out a solution soon.

The car is used 3K on the clock. List price about £41k new

[]Personally I wouldn'y buy it then and I would go for an unsold brand new 987 if you need an intro to a man who can assist please PM me. A few weeks ago he had cars so I would have to double check where he stands today of course [;)]

I was in the same position when I first went to my Porsche dealership... wanted to buy a used 996 with a budget limit of 50k. After seeing the new Boxster and testdriving both a used 996 and the 987S, I decided to order a Boxster S instead. It's the newest generation and a great car. Well, a few weeks after ordering my vehicle I saw a gorgeous Porsche management (pre-registered) 987S up for sale, with 2000 miles and for a good price. I caved in, cancelled my order and got my present "dirty girl", with no regrets. Been driving mostly open since the beginning of April. :)

Dension keep saying they are working on a solution for the ipod with a CDR 24, I'll keep waiting and watching.

You can use an iTrip at the moment if you really need to use your ipod. Don't know what the quailty is like though.

if you don't need the (what jokingly pass as ) back seats then for me the Boxster wins every time. and you get extra secure luggage space as well..

Same here Colin - I had a 2.7 986 and was looking to chop it in for a facelift 996. Tested a lovely arctic silver C2 with sports exhaust and a 987 S demo at the same time and there was no competition. The 996 is a superb car but in terms of pure value for money there is NO competition. The 987 is probably quicker, is a decade more modern, handles astonishingly well and for the same money, will be brand new and to your spec.

I agree with Robert - enquire as to what new stock the OPC's have as some often get an extra allocation without customer orders against them (though the ones I saw at OPC Colchester were loaded to the roof with toys). I would suggest that a 987S with a few carefully chosen extras - you won't regret it!!

Thanks to Daro I have been offered two car

1.It is finished in Seal Grey metallic, Black partial interior, Black hood, Manual transmission, Heated seats, Porsche sound pack, Wind deflector. Rear park assist, CDC autochanger, Top tint windscreen. The vehicle comes out at £ 41,008.00 on-the-road.

2.Basalt Black metallic paint, Black partial leather interior (std. UK spec.), BOSE sound pack/wind deflector pack, Heated seats, Climate control, Rear park assistance, CDC changer, Manual transmission, Top tint windscreen (std. UK spec).

The price is £ 41,746.02 on-the-road to include RFL & 1st reg fee.

Anybody got any thoughtson which one? Or is there anything missing from these 2 that is important.

Sounds good. Having listened to both the sound pack and the Bose, I'd personally choose the car with the Bose system, but that's just me :) . Happy testing and selecting!

Colin, That is a tough choice.

Only thing I would consider having had and still owning black cars is the cleaning overhead, Seal Grey would hide a bit of dirt better other than that there's nothing in it. I have the Sound Pack in mine and am happy with it other than the bass made the door rattle which in turn is requiring for the interior door panel to be replaced but that's another story.

[;)]Both specs are fine and this is the one I would personally go for unless of course you like your stereo louder than the engine / exhaust note [8D] Let us all know how it pans out in the end and hopefully we will have another happy 987 owner onboard the forum

cool thanks for the replies.

Just one more question, has any one driven a boxster with PASM. The reason I ask is I've come across with that. Is it worth the money? Also the car has 19" alloys, does to make the ride too hard. I'm using the everyday and now I've turned 40 my backs not what it use to be!!!!!

PASM IMO ruins the daily drive completely when switched to "sport" mode. Unless you are a budding trackday star I wouldn't recommend it at all [&o] not even if you do like having your fillings shook up :ROFLMAO:

18" or 19" wheels on standard suspension no real comfort differences although I would add the standard ride set up on the car is absolutely superb and not one of the other 2 seater roadsters out there comes even close.

Good luck and go have a nice long test drive first

It's not a big deal, but I think the 19" are more suited to a track than our completely smooth roads, if you get my drift.

It's also true that the Greys and Silvers hide the dirt better, but saying that, I would go for the Black one.

Just my preference!

I do like black myself, but it is a pain to keep clean.

Told the wife that I'm getting a boxster and now she has started moaning about perhaps I should get an SLK( according to her it must be better it has a hard roof!!!!). Has any one drive the SLK350 yet?
