new car, small problems

You have definitely got the late valve early control combination. If you change the valve you will get the correct one, the one with the straight arm, as this is now the only one available from Porsche. so they tell me.

Oh i c. the cable for the valve comes from the left, and i have 3 levers inside the car, one for fan speed, one for hot/cold and the other for footwell/window selector. do you recon my valve is wrong then? if so what should it be?

As far as I can make out from the manual this is infact correct as far as it goes, as the switch, in the off position feeds current to the motor windings via the self park contacts until they open to break the circuit. Check that the switch is connected correctly. Failing that check that the self park contacts in the motor are opening, because it seems like they are not. They can get so full of cr.p that they dont work correctly.

Excellent, thanks for that vince. iv got it working, appart from it doesnt work properly as i cant seem to get it to park. if i only connect the green park wire, then it does park, and if i oly connect the main switch wire, it works like that but not both together.
i have noticed though that at the switch, if i only connect the main feed and switch wire, not the park wire, there seems to be voltage comming back from the motor down the park cable. is there something wrond with the motor?
is it domething to do with the resistor and the yellow thing on the motor itself? can i test them?

oh that old chestnut. right i c. i shall give porscheshop a bell later on and see what they have got. thanks for that m8.

and as for the rear wiper, i shall clean it out and try it again, failing that i shall have to wait untill my haynes arrives to check the wiring myself. the previous owner has messed about with the electrics anyway, so something might not be quite right.

Thanks for the advice m8, you seem to know quite abit.

I ought to, I drove the same 924 for 14 years, bough it at 69,000 miles, rebuilt the engine at 110,000, took it round to 247,000 then scrapped it as totally worn out. Curently have three '24's on the go, 1 lux and 2 931s (turbo)

....... understatement or what !!!!! Our friend 924nutter is the bible [:D]

Glad to see you're getting the car sorted. You sound like you know a fair amount already from the diagnostics you've done so far, so good luck with the rest. Get along to Frontrunner to have a good look at a few other cars and pick some more brains - it'll be a day well spent.

cheers ......... Phil

Thanks m8. i might just have to do that.
It should be quite interesting.

Cheers guys.

Chris.

HI guys, i havnt posted anything about my car for a while so here goes.

Iv only just managed to get my car into a garage this week to try and sort out my problems, my cold start problems. exhaust and then the rear drivers side suspention totally seized, nice i know.
The garage rang me up today to tell me that:-

1. my exhaust manifold gasget needs changing,
2. 8 new exhaust manifold nuts(why i dont know),
3. a gasget for the the exhaust front pipe onto the manifold,
4. 5 exhaust manifold studs.
5. some soft of long screw or stud?
6. spring plate bushes for both sides of the rear suspention (apparently the other side is on its way out, nice)
7. finally some sort of mounting plate tube that it all bolts onto (notsure about that 1)
oh yeah, and im not sure whats happening about my cold start problem, yet.

now the annoying thing is, the bushes that are on the spring plate, you cant buy them seperatly, you have to buy a whole complete new part at £172 each, and i need 4.

Luckely iv rang porsheshop and they can get me all the parts but there are no spring plates in the country, so they have had to order them direct from germany. which didnt please the garage as he now has the car in peices on a stand clogging up his garage for 3 days while he waits for the parts, not a happy bunny. oh well, not my fault.

like i say, im getting all the parts, but because iv orderd so much i think he has gave me discount so im only, yes only spending £650. £100 more than i paid for the car. doh.
and on top of that i have got to try and find the money to pay the garage, lucky me.

oh well, atleast it should all be sorted soon and back on the road, i cant wait.

ok guys, as you might know my car is in zentrum and so far they have found that my warm up regulator is nakerd, so thats why i have cold starting problems. they cant tell what else is wrong untill they have that working again. stay tuned folkes.

Hi Chris

So I gather you've sorted all the exhaust/manifold (had this done on my car also - took the best part of a day for my specialist to do) and suspension work - and the car is in again for work to improve cold starting?

Hope it's all sorted out - the good thing is that the work will probably last another 20 years [:)]

Yeah i will be glad once it is all done, but well worth it in the end. it sounds like you have my car, same things going wrong. the car would be allright if the previouse owner hadn't dissowned it. i think he knew what was going to go wrong or what was going wrong and decided to sell it. never mind, just can't wait to get it back to finally drive it properly. and then take it to another garage to have the headlining re done and then a re spray. yes i know, more money [:(]

and you know that won't be the end of it....[;)] ....... good fun this Porsche ownership, ain't it. Still, once you get it on the road all else is forgiven.

Phil

Lol, cheers m8. certaintly aint one of the cheapest hobbies iv done. oh well, all good fun.

ok here is an update, they have carried out a system pressure test and everying is ok including the head gasget, thank god. but the said they have found the fuel presssure regulator to be not working, what actually is that? should be all fixed tomorrow though and will all cost arround £330, which is nice.

ok. finally got my car back and it is sounding and drives sweet as a nut. they did say that my warm up regulator was broken, and was going to buy a new one from porsche untill they found out that they wanted £460 (ouch). so instead the went somewhere local and got it for half price. opc's are a rip off.
never mind, all fixed and working for £330 so cant complain really.
