New member + 1st 911 + quandary + stupid questions + guidance needed

Rear anti roll bars differ, on the standard turbo they are 21.7mm as opposed to 20.7 for the C4s. X73 suspension turbos had 22.7mm.
Option 1 for me. good luck
Cheers Andy, Please excuse my ignorance ! but if the roll bars were not changed and were the 21.7 and if by some miracle were the 22.7mm X73 would this be detrimental in any way to the car ? ie I will make an assumption that the C4/s engine is lighter therefore it does not need the extra girth therefore the extra rigidity ? or can i just relax in the knowledge that it's just beefier ?

I'm not a suspension expert, but that would be my assumption to help with the balance and increased roll resistance, the GT2s had slightly thinner ones but were 3 or 4 way adjustable for racing tyres etc, I'm sure myself & most drivers would not be aware of any differance on the road.

Option 1 gets my vote too.

What a great old tub you have managed to find there!

If you want to use it on the road and your insurer and the DVLA are happy with it then just tinker around with it as much as you like and have some fun with it - heck that's what its there for!

You will be able to get it sorted and make it perform and handle in the way you want it to - standard 996's drive pretty well anyway.

I have an old 996 banger which I use all the time because it's the one I like driving the most. When it breaks which is not very often I get it fixed ...... as cheaply as possible and using scrapyard / salvage parts if need be. It's unlikely that I will ever sell it.

Go and visit a pre-war / classic race meet and take a look at how successive generations of owners have gradually evolved their cars - let your imagination run free and it may give you a few ideas / inspiration about what to do with yours.

By being a 'bitsa' creation your car already has its very own character and unique identity and is in effect number 1 of 1. I reckon there are not that many Porsche owners out there who can honestly say that about their car.

It is still possible to enjoy a Porsche ...... without spending very much money!
