I picked up a Seal Grey 996 Turbo yesterday , I traded up from a 997C2s
First Impressions is the speed delivery and the 4 wheel drive handling
very Impressed - virtually no turbo lag at all

Im off to Bedford Autodromenext week so I might turn the PCM off and give the car an outing around the track

Well done [:)]. The C2S didn't last too long.[;)]

The 4 wheel drive does not really seem noticeable (at least not to me). 95% goes to the rear unless there are problems, so it drives quite well.
Aside from the heightened induction noises, you wouldn't know that it was turbo charged, since the power comes in quite smoothly and the lag is not obvious (unless you look for it). Porsches claim is that it drives just like a bigger engined car, which I think is reasonably accurate, although you have to remember that you need to have the boost to get the full torque (which is not the same for a larger engine). However, the huge benefit is that you get all that performance and sensible fuel economy.

You don't need to turn the PSM off, unless you want to go properly sideways.
It seems to allow you a bit more leeway on the TT. You can spin the rear tyres without it intervening (not completely tyre smoking but it allows them to slip by maybe 25%?). In the dry this is pretty hard to achieve though, since the traction is more than up to the job.
The PSM will also allow modest angles for sliding the car.
Anyway, you can play with it, but I don't think it spoils the fun having it on.

Enjoy, and you have timed it just right for the arrival of the nicer weather.
Note that you have no dipstick and the oil needs to be checked when the engine is running and warm, so you tend to forget or put it off till next time.
If you use it a lot, remember to check the levels (just before filling with petrol is good, since it takes about 5-10 secs, the engine is warm and the ground is level). Hard driving (foot to the floor) uses more oil I have discovered.

Cheers Stuart,

I had the C2s from last october I did 6800 miles in it ( 3200 going to Marbella and back )
so It was stuck in the garage - I also traded in a Cayenne V6
Its a boyhood dream to have a turbo ( amazing spec with low miles )
So I believe I now have the best all round road car and track day car -GT3 RS

Is Optimax the best fuel to run the Turbo ?

tim

I tend to use any branded Super Unleaded BP, Texaco etc. The only car I have ever owned that I actually felt or noticed a difference when using Optimax was a MINI Cooper S.

Well done on a great choice of car what spec is it and are you going to post some photos.

It'll run on anything 95 or above, but you should use premium fuels.

Esso 97 is fine, I prefer BP ultimate (but BP are consistently a few pence more expensive than anyone else) but mostly use Optimax. I think any performance difference is largely psychological and I reckon the weather conditions make more of a difference. Cool damp air is the best - warm dry less so.

Watch out for the smoke on start up. I doesn't do it everytime, and mostly it is quite muted, but occaisionally you get quite a cloud. It can be a surprise if you are not expecting it.

I had a great blast yesterday with my mates in a Carrera GT and a GT3 RS
through the kent countryside , I was Impressed with the way it held its own
but noticed it was not a nimble as the RS around tight bends and rounabouts

Roll on the summer
