Gary, I think it looks much better in the riveria blue. I wanted a 968 in that colour, but they are are like hens teeth so had so settle for an equally subtle colour, speed yellow.

looks like most people prefer the blue. silver's ok but when you drive a 911 turbo i think it should stand out from the crowd. there's to many silver turbo's out there. the newer one's look ok in silver but the older turbo's don't. i was going to paint it yellow but glad i didn't as would have been to in yer face.

I think the Turbo stands out plenty already - no matter what colour you go for!! I maybe see 1 other 911 Turbo every 6 months on the roads, and usually in black. Silver Turbos are only common if you go to the Porsche GB car-park out the back.

If like me you want something classy and ALSO unique then you just have go for options that aren't so common, for example:

I haven't met one person that thinks my car needs to stand out more!! [:D]

...well unless I count my petrol-head-Evo-driving younger brother who thinks unless it has go faster stripes, bling chrome wheels, enormous loud exhaust pipes, and a huge rear wing it doesn't bare attention.

You're not one of those are you?! [;)]

wouldn't catch me driving anything 4wd. thats for girls. rwd is the only way to go. i like evo's but wouldn't own one.

You know, when you put it like that, it makes me realize how foolish I was buying a 4wd drive car. Thankyou for showing me the light [:D] [:D] [:D]

Hmmmmm. Methinks an apt christian name for this young Pompey boy.

Dear lad, please understand that gentlemen fwd drivers are always begged by the organisers of damp trackdays to go out first. Our job is to make a dry line so that the 2wd wusses cowering in the pits may take to the track with some safety.

Indeed [:)]

In all seriousness, I don't think I would ever buy another 2wd car now. My old 997 Carrera S was great at power-slides but other than that the 911 4wd system has it beat on every single aspect. Yes the steering is a bit heavier and gives a little less feedback, but the gains in having 4wd are massive over these "" especially on public roads. Plus most of the time the car is set up to keep power principally to the rear wheels anyway, only when you NEED it do the front wheels drag you forwards.

i've only ever driven 2 4wd cars. one was a audi s4 twin turbo. nice car and handled really well and the other was a tuned R32 skyline gtr with single turbo conversion. that car was really fast. probably good for 180mph +. i personally prefer rwd as you can have some real fun. my friend who owned the skyline has gone back to rwd. he said he didn't like the way the car handled and felt. he took the engine out of the skyline and is fitting it in to a nissan 200sx and going to use it for drift racing.

I've never driven 4WD but I have to say that the current 997tt looks like it handles pretty well. I've seen some videos on youtube and don't think you can compare it to any other 4WD car, except maybe a WRC car [:D].

I would like to talk to someone who really knows about Impreza's or Evo's and get the nitty gritty on the road cars diff's compared to the WRC cars. I note the WRC cars cost £500K to build so I doubt the diff's are the same.

Welcome Garry and well done for taking the plunge on changes.

IMHO - If you're not going to paint the stripe Gulf Orange, do it blue.

And lose the extended Essex rear spoiler. Purrrleeeeeeese!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice Alex, good to see I'm not the only one with 'issues' with the standard 997tt wheels.

sorry rear wing is staying. i love it. took me nearly 2 months to get it from america. i was thinking of painting the centres of the wheels orange but decided on black. car now has got canards on the front bumper for extra downforce when cornering. i'll get some pics at the weekend and put them on here

Hi Gary,

Welcome aboard. At last, somebody with a bigger rear wing than Nathan! [;)]

If it's not too vulgar a question, how much does a total respray cost these days? (My 'old, red bus' could certainly do with more than a little bit of touching up.)

Incidentally, that old set of Black Fuchs will be worth a pretty penny. (Considering that when I got dinged a few years back by a hit-and-run van driver, it cost the Insurance company over £500 just for one damn wheel!)

resprays can be quite expensive. i painted mine myself. all the paint cost me £180. all in 2k paint. red is quite an easy colour to paint being a flat colour it pretty straight forward. use 2k paint. were abouts do you live?

I'm in the East Midlands (Nottingham to be exact). Take it you've got all the kit (including ovens and all that)?

I don't about this 4WD argument. As stunning as Alex's motor is - it's recently relegated to 2nd in my all-time-favourite Porsche - it's no GT2! [:D]

What's that wing done for your top speed? The car had a none-too-impressive drag factor of 0.39, before you applied 'more downforce'!.. I'm guessing that you'll be pushed to break 150mph without beefing up the engine a bit. (If you haven't done so already, fit a 1-bar wastegate spring to get another 20bhp - about £45 from Bert Gear at Berlyn Services.)

i painted the car in my mates heated garage. had it rubbed down , primered , top coat and mopped up in 2 days. not bad going.
before i fitted the carbon wing i was using the gt2 standard wing. i did a ferrari at over 150+ not on a public road of course.
not used the car with the new wing yet. i've got a 1 bar spring fitted allready to a tial 46mm wastegate. got stainless headers and system and a performance induction kit so hopefully power should be somewhere around 380hp ish. i'll find out when i get the engine back together as will put it on a rolling road.
i can alter the angle of the rear wing for different downforce. its the same wing that some 993 gt2 race cars used.

nathan i was running 14psi on the standard intercooler and turbo. it was fitted with a boost controller. not to sure if the turbo is standard. it has 3ldz stamped on it. it is in perfect condition. no play in the shaft at all. the new wastegate i've fitted has got a 13.5 psi spring fitted. i will be uprating the intercooler soon. found a turbo 2 one. not sure if this would be best or go for something bigger.
