Hello all,

Just bought my first Porsche - 89' 944 S2 in Guard's Red, and am absolutely besotted with it (I still keep going to the garage to look at it). I need to get the belts done and also a service (to start off on the right foot) can anyone tell me if they have used Lorimar & Finlay in Whiteinch Glasgow as they are my closest independent, how are they?

Welcome to the club, Mr X! Hope you are enjoying your car.
Haven't used Lorimer & Finlay myself, being located on the East Coast, but am sure that one of our west coast guys can give you chapter and verse.
Hopefully someone will join this thread and tell you all that you need to know.
All the best.

Welcome Xcut. Used them a couple of times and was well impressed. They know their stuff and pricing is reasonable.

Thanks guys for the prompt replies. Going to book the car in for sometime soon then I can rest easy! Have still got a pemanent smile and feel soooo happy, still can't believe ive got a Porsche!

Welcome to the club[:)] My first porsche was a S2 Cab and I loved every mn of it. have fun[8D]

Thanks everyone i've got the S2 booked in to Lorimar & Finlay for next week now all I need is a good weekend to get the polish out and then i'll take some snaps. I took it out last night and just drove around the local roads getting used to the feel - been a few years since my last rear wheel drive - a 1.6 Capri!

Welcome to the PCGB the finest Porsche Club in the Word, and I hope that your membership gives you as much enjoyment as your first Porsche is obveously doing.
My first car was an 86 944 Turbo (220hp) in Gaurds Red, it was about 6 years old when I purcahsed it.
I owned the car for 3 years and sold it for nearly as much as I had paid for it.
Long may you enjoy your car and long may you enjoy your Club

Welcome
I am collecting my car in March( Feb build). Any tips. Was it the Rosyth ferry? How much notice do you get as to which dates you can collect?

Thanks to you all.

Lawrence:

The OPC look for about 6 weeks notice they then have to contact the factory to make sure its OK on that day. I decided to come back via Euro Tunnel, they wanted to charge a small fortune for two cabins on the Rosyth ferry (I took my business partner instead of my wife). After doing the trip several times with Mercedes where you don't get charged I didn't want to pay any more than the 1k it already cost.

Tips; make sure you have lunch at the Guest Casino (it's included but not everyone takes it) , excellent food and you can sit and watch all the cars leaving the factory and going for their road test.

Also let the guy run through all the controls, I thought I knew everything about the controls having downloaded the manual 4 weeks before, he was stuill able to tell me thing I didn't know.

Last one, make sure you know the parking aragements at the hotels you are staying at, we stayed in Brussels on one of the nights, after being promised private lockable parking I arrived to find only Valet Parking in a public car park, I did'nt sleep so well that night, not only did a stranger take away my pride and joy but it was then going to be available for anyone to take a key to.

Otherwise enjoy it, anymore questions just ask.

Graeme

Thanks, I am just a bit concerned that I have not heard anything from the OPC as yet. Did you tour around. I hope to go to Rheims and Epernay. I have been recomended a hotel in Tubingen which offers private garages for my 1st night but any others gladly received. They have completely vague about cost. I thought the 1k included the Rosyth ferry!

It was £850 + £150 for an additional single room for the first night in Stuttgart. We went to Donaueschingen (Furstenberg Brewery) then stayed at Freiburg the first night (Dorint Hotel) nice rooms and underground parking. We then went to Brussels, then on to Rochdale, then home.

Once you agree a date with the OPC and they confirm it is possible with the factory DER travel give you a ring to sort it all out.

I used Sytner Glasgow and they had a girl deal with it all no problem, you might want to call your dealer and chase them up.
