WHEY and (feggin) HEEEY!

Huuuuge thanks to Stephen (Slim_boy_fat) for his hands-on assistance tonite (and for giving up his saturday night to do so). Couldn't have done it without you sir.

Marginally less, but still big thanks to Fen for his general knowledge transfer over the years. Fulfilled a dream that started when I was 14 and Peter Dron ran a 944S1 as a long termer for fast Lane magazine.

As of tonight we have a lovely 75K Glacier White S2. [:)]

(Thanks to Derek the seller too if you're reading).

Wouldn't claim to have worked the bargain of the decade, but a sound car for a fair price. Everyone happy.

1st q for you all ~ the drivers wiper popped out of drive tonight. Likely to be the linkage? Are they known for this?

Muchos gracias folks, and hello to all the SeatCupra.Net folks I know. Leon is still in the family.

Nice one mik, I was wondering if today was the day.

Yes, the wiper linkage pops off commonly. The only way to fix it is to buy the part that links the motor with the arm (driver's side, right?). The part is a metal pressing with a nylon cup either end and the nylon wears. Get a new one, grease it up and pop it on and you should be fine. Not even dear. I used elastic bands as an emergency fix when mine did it but they don't last long.

BTW your's is Alpine white - mine are Glacier and it's blue [8|]

Yeah it's drivers side.

just sounded like a "linkage pop" given past experience with a Fiat Regatta (ahem).

tonight was indeed the night. I should point out (before Stephen does ;-) ) that it's "officially" the replacement for the wife's Ka, so it's hers....... which of course.... it is [;)] 100% [;)] [;)]

I'm now delighted with my *Apline* White S2. [:-]

Sorry - I meant OUR Alpine White S2 [8|]

Not "Apline" at all then [8D]

I was going to wait for your second post before checking with you it was you wife's car. Does she like it? And did you do in "the beast"?

In the morning you'll find the linkage lying in the scuttle where it's come off the wiper arm end (may even be off completely) and you'll see that it's pretty straight forward to fix, just awkward to get to.

We did indeed go in The Beast (tm)

Pant wettingly quick and superb nick both inside and out. Yummy!

Wife does indeed like 9read Loooove) it, but I need two new rears before I can be happy with her driving it (existing are on the wear indicators, and I had a 'hey - remember what your old mk2 escort was like" moment on a roundabout on the way home wothout trying very hard at all). Since it has Yoko AVS on the front I think I'll do the same for the rear (from mytyres) unless anyone knows a good source for some discontinued 225/50/16 Toyo T1S ??????

AVS are OK - not the longest lasting and no rim protector whatsoever though.

Right, you've owned it for a few hours now, so it must be time to think about modifying it.

Essential Styling metropolitan sewer grade exhaust and a Blitz chip should be a good start. Then some nice 17" Cups, maybe Konis and what about an induction kit?

Of course if that is not sufficiently hardcore you could go straight to the Ninemeister supercharger conversion for a sweet 350bhp.

Lah lah lah..... can't hear you!

Love cups but the wife thinks they're a bit "boy racer". Happy with the recon'd 16" design 90's for the mo as they are spotless. Wouldn;t mind some 9" rears though...... I take it 10mm spacers are a bad idea to fill the arches a-la-9inchers?

Chip and free-flowing stainless system are planned mods....but it'll be insured classsic for the 1st year at least, and I know most classic ins want std.

I know Yoki AVS are not the best, and accept all the "front to rear match non-essential" comments. Rim protectors are also mik's wife protectors and are therefore heralded as the best thing since sliced fish. So where do I pick up T1-S el-cheapo?

9" rears are like sliced fish's teeth to find. I wanted a set for my Turbo's track tyres but I ended up buying a set of Cup 1's this week instead.

Dunno where people get Toyos. I bought a set of Boxster wheels and stripped the tyres off a few months ago for my D90's but I have a good contact for tyres generally who does me "special deals" - Exmouth isn't so handy for you though. Didn't Slim get Toyos for his Turbo when he needed tyres?

I don't think small spacers are that bad, but I haven't used them and the only person I know does use them has them on the back of an '87 Turbo that has literally done 11 miles per year for the last 3 or 4 years (the distance from his garage to his work where he gets the MoT done - he has a 968CS that does into 4-figure annual mileages too [8|]), so he's no guide.

i just remembered.......I hate you. grrrrrrr.

PS - If they are as rare as sliced fish teeth I''m OK. It's when they get as rare as sliced tatooed fish teeeth I het perplexed.

Well done Mik [:D] we expect piccies as soon as possible.

If you do get spacers, spend the extra for proper ones with extra studs and not just shims as I know another owner who tried 9mm shims but found the stud was then not long enough to do up the nut sufficiently. I'm ok coz I do have 9" rears [:D]

Oh and for everyone else KEEP THAT WIPER LINKAGE GREASED, mine wore away years ago and needed replacing but was a right pain as it happened on a long trip in the pouring rain

Nah, you're OK then. It's magnesium teledials that are like tattooed fish teeth.

That will teach you for taking a numpty along with you to look at the car.

Atleast the ABS works..... [:D]

Found the linkage exactly where I was told it would be...... thank you gents.

Arm end was dry. Will grease her up and refit.

I take it these should "pop" back in with a clunk? [8|]

Oh no! It' didn't clunk did it? You'll have broken the gingle pin now. And that means you'll need a new spod rod too and they're engine and dash out to fit. That's gonna cost you £££££££.

Of course it should clunk - louder the better because that means it's tighter so more likely to stay put. My money is that it just pops off again though and you'll have to blow £7 down Glenvarigill for a new one.

Seven whole pounds????

I knew it was gonna cost to run it, but this is ridiculous....may just sell it!

From memory it was £6 odds when I bought one. Could be wrong though, there's a first time for everything [;)]

What are you doing on the internet at lunchtime on a Sunday when you've just bought an S2 anyway? I have an excuse - I'm putting off sanding down the stairs.

Fen, you blummin southerner - his wipers are broke, and you know what the weather is like up there [8|]

Of course, I feel such a fool. It rains 370 days a year in Glasgow. I've clearly been living down south for far too long.
