Hi Everyone,

I took delivery of my beautiful black 997.2 C2S 2 weeks ago (Mid Sussex Porsche) and a friend recommended I join the PCGB he is a member with a Targa C4S. I come from owning 2 M3's both the E46 and E92 and the handling of the Porsche is a revelation straight line seems on par with the E92 but it feels a very special car to drive.

Spec includes
Short shift
Sports seats
Heated seats
Wheel spacers
PSE
PCM3 inc Nav
USB
Telephone Module

Just thought I'd introduce myself and show a couple of pictures......(well I would but the files are too large!)

Anyway I'm looking forward to enjoying the Club membership and trying few track days out....

Cheers,

Welcome to the 997 side of the club Neil [:)]
Friendly lot in here (well mostly but we do have a few oddballs!! [;)])

Enjoy the new motor and remember it does drive very different to a BM....
I have a few friends that have CSL's and the likes and we do enjoy a good day out......!

Many of us host our pics as we are aware the picture size is smaller than we sometimes use... 200kb only

Ha ha! Would you believe me if I said that a friend parked it in a tree? Seriously I'd borrowed his discovery to move some stuff and he called me the next day in tears......

Welcome Neil,

A lovely looking car and good spec. Hope you are enjoying it. [:)]

The latest 911 has a more sophicated and highly developed chassis than the M3. It'll take time to get used to it, but it's a very rewarding motor. [;)]

Good luck.

Regards,

Clive

Nothing a bit of T-Cut wouldn't sort!
Welcome to Gen 2ship. How are the Mid-Sussex crowd? Bought my first through them.
Look forward to seeing you on track - been out on quite a few in mine already.[8D]

Neil

Welcome on board - lovely looking car and nice spec, IMO Black is the best colour to go for, not that mine is black or anything...........

The short shift is an absolute joy to use - once you get used to it you won't want to go back.

Hope to see you and the car out on a few club outings

At last someone else who loves the short shift. I have it on my Cayman S and it was one if the reasons for going for it, love it. It seems to get a mixed reception on here.
Could somene (Derek) PM me some details of the next IOM event assuning there's space for a Cayman.

Chris
I think most of us drivers love it, I certainly do..[8D]
We do however realise that in the morning it can be slightly notchty, it would be unfair not to mention that fact.

Would I spec it on my next car.. if it a manual then Yes 100%

The club takes all Porsches for the IOM trip, we'd join the club event as its established and very good value for money, not to mention very well organsied...
and then add the extra 997 twist to it [;)]

Thanks, yes he was amazingly! although I could have killed him! The short shift is great adds to the feel of the car very meaty and 2nd to 3rd is like a rifle bolt action.

I'm a little bit concerned about track days as I have driven on track mostly the Bedford west circuit but that's with an instructor by your side and a race car under you.

I'm worried that:

A, I'll bin it.
B, Someone else will bin me.

Are these track days well supervised and marshalled?

[&:][&:][][][8|] I sense resistance in this young one [;)]

It possibly a touchy subject with costs, the Porsche club trackdays are very well run which is why they have been established for such a long time.
However they are not the cheapest but many, many people would only ever go on PCGB track days because they are so well run.

There's a whole section on club trackdays within the forum http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tt.asp?forumid=59 where you can read and make your own mind up.
I have attended a few BMW days as they do offer IMHO better value for money.

Totally agree on the 2nd to 3rd movement [8D]

Hi Neil,

Welcome and a good choice of car and colour :) (ok mines the same). Is that a Sports Exhaust I see on the car? My wife sometimes lets me drive her E92 M3 and I find myself always trying to compare the two. As some members will know I'm still to order the exhaust for mine and at the moment I have to say the M3 has it on sound track so far. However, once I have it fitted I look forward to saying the opposite!!

Would be interested in getting your feedback on the noise between the two.

BTW, agree with your view on the pace being similar to the E92 but I think everything else is leagues ahead (certainly steering weight/feel and brakes). It feels like what a proper sports car should. Saying that and don't tell the wife that oversteer on demand on the M3 is great! :)

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon,

Well I had a Miltek cat back on my e92 so the noise was a great deep V8 burble at low revs giving way to the howl of the V8 at 8300rpm so I would say the M3 still has the edge.

As regards the PSE I have been experimenting with having it off and on to see the difference and apart from low revs where the PSE has a really dry clatter (I love that!) there really isn't really that much difference IMHO.

Having said that I love the sound of the flat boxer engine (sports exhaust or not).

Yes agreed the balance of the car is on another level from M3 and I just love the damn thing....but the oversteer on demand was pretty good and I miss that.....one day I'll be lucky like you and have both....!

Cheers!

Neil

PCGB run IOM trips every year, normally in May. If you own a Porsche, then this is the only place I know where you can drive it as it was intended. Moreover, it is a great weekend overall. Watch for details in Porche Post

Well, on a public road anyway.............[;)] I know plenty of other places where you can drive it as it was intended[8D]

I'd like to debate that! A track is quite boring unless it is the Ring. 37 miles of great mountain roads totally devoid of speed limits is nothing like Castle Combe!
