I will raise the subject over the weekend with you...
Needless to say I had to fill up twice last time I was at the IOM []

Twice - you weren't trying[8D]
The trips cost me a fortune in fuel
One lap then?[]ORIGINAL: garyw

Fair point Derek but you probably need to be pretty familiar with the roads before you can drive it as intended. How many "laps" do you get on the IOM run over the weekend? Might give it a go next year! Apologies to the OP for changing the subject.
Depends on the number of days. Normally we go Fri - Mon. Two outings a day are normal so that equals 8. You could get 2 laps in per session, so that is 16 total.
However, only the 'dawn raid' (starting at 7 am) guarantees a quiet (ish) road, essential for fast, safe motoring. Moreover, it is a mountain circuit and early morning sometimes attracts cloud/fog.
In practice, however, you get as much has you want.
But it is fun with a capital F. []

.....and somtimes its dry one side of the mountain with monsoon conditions on the other. Great fun! [] []

Could somene (Derek) PM me some details of the next IOM event assuning there's space for a Cayman.
PCGB run IOM trips every year, normally in May. If you own a Porsche, then this is the only place I know where you can drive it as it was intended. Moreover, it is a great weekend overall. Watch for details in Porche Post
Thanks Derek, could you give me an idea of cost, is the ferry extra and when you have to get your name down?
Every event I have tried to book seems to get booked 6 mths in advance.

mountain road... admittedly the picture is a little shakey but we do actually have a very good excuse for that []
A bit of tourism whilst you're there....
Not the first time I've been either... sadly held up by Cayman drivers that time though......[]

Not sure what next years price will be. Not even sure if Geoff Ives knows yet. This year was about £450, but that included a single occupancy suppliment. The price includes just about everything for Fri - Mon in a excellent hotel and included accommodation, ferry & all meals bar about one, and some booze! Pretty good value really, especially if you look on the web at Steam Packet Holidays to the IOM. Keep an eye out for announcements in PP
However this is a rough idea of date costs etc.
Cost around £300 per person assuming 2 sharing.
Date Mid May (to be announced)
Duration ..Friday to Monday.
This was last years itinerary but there will be some changes this year.

ITINERARY
Date Friday 22nd May till Monday 25th May 2009
Friday Leave Liverpool by Seacat for Douglas at 10am arriving at Douglas about 12.30. After a short drive of 8 miles we reach the Mount Murray Hotel where we will be staying.
This is, for our purposes, the best hotel on the Island. It is a 4 Star establishment with very secure parking and full sports facilities including a 18 hole Golf Course.
Evening. There will be a wine and buffet reception and a driver briefing. For the briefing I will be assisted by a senior member of the Manx Police. The police are very supportive of our visits and assist with the organisation of the event.
Saturday Because of uncertainty of the Manx weather I have decided to run a "˜Dawn Raid' on the Saturday as well as the Sunday. Well you can't get too much of a good thing. So it's 6.30 am in the car park for a 7 am departure from the T.T. Grandstand.
The Dawn Raid is a fast but legal lap of the TT circuit under the control of our own marshals from Region 30.
The rest of Saturday is free time but we do have something new for you this year. We call it the "˜Manx Challenge'. Together with the Manx department of Tourism we have identified 6 places of interest. They are all places where entry is free but there is an opportunity to buy refreshments. If you visit 5 of these places and get a sticker from each you will qualify for a parchment certificate signed by our "˜Guest of Honour',.
Sunday Another Dawn Raid, or not, as you wish, followed by a hearty breakfast ( I recommend the Manx Kippers) and at 11 am a return to the T,T. Grandstand for"¦
T.T, CHALLENGE
The aim of this event is to drive the T.T. Circuit at an average speed of 40mph.
Cars will set off from the Grandstand at 1 minute intervals. It is important that your Rally Plate is fixed in a way that the marshals can see it from the front..
Time clocks are set up at the start/finish point and marshals post and timing is based on these clocks.
All entrants who finish the course, calling at all Marshals check points, will receive a certificate. The 3 cars that come closest to the target speed will be awarded a trophy.
Evening. A Gala Dinner. The dress code is "˜Smart'.
Monday Leave Douglas for Liverpool and Home. That is unless you have decided to extend your visit.

We are hoping to introduce a Porsche only Track Day at the Jurby Circuit this year. More details to follow.

That is the basic package but there is also one for the Ireland Region (27) that departs on Thursday 13th May and returns Thursday 21st. I know that quite af few mainland members will be using that package.
We have an allotment of 50 rooms in the Mout Murray Hotel and 13 are already earmarked, 10 for Ireland and 3 for my team.
I will put a link to the booking form on this forum as soon as it is finalised so be quick or you could find yourelf in the second hotel.
