New PDK Steering wheel

hi every one, first time on your forum so please be gentle.
Ive just ordered a carrera s with pdk should be with me by october. Ive spoken to a few people in the know and they tell me that Porsche are aware of the pdk shift not appealing to everyone and are looking into it. I was also told that should such an event happen they would re-call all sold gen2's and upgrade them if required. Now im quite new to porsche(one previou c4s) so dont have a great deal of experience with them so i'll let you make your own minds up on that one. All i can say on the pdk box is BRILLIANT!! ive never used flappy paddles before so i took to it like a duck to water, however i much prefered the gear stick up/down method.Even leaving it in full auto is amazing!! the car seems to know every hill,bump and corner to have the right gear just when you want it. So if your reading this Mex99 dont worry another second. You made the right choice!!! Great forum by the way.

With all respect, do you also believe in Fairies? Still, I suppose if you have been told than by your salesman, then he has to make it happen. Can't see it myself.

However, you will love PDK nevertheless.
 
HI DEREK, THE MAN IN QUESTION ACTUALLY WORKS FOR MICHELIN. HE'S BEEN WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH PORSCHE(APPARENTLY)HE ALSO SAID THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RELEASING A 997 NEXT GEN TURBO WITH PDK EITHER. FACT OR FAIRYTALE?? I DONT KNOW. MY DAUGHTERS LOVE FAIRIES THOUGH!!! CHEERS, MICHAEL.
 
Comment re turbo pdk certainly makes sense - torque is already something like 620 - I think taking it any further would be way beyond dual clutch technology - current at least. Who knows....
 
Bear in mind that a lot of people who ordered 997s during the first half of 2007 were told that they would be getting the facelifted model from MY08, including me.

Retrofit steering wheels for no good reason other than some would prefer another arrangement? I'll believe that when I see it.

Porsche don't make mistakes.

They do bring out product improvements though!

Mk1 996 GT3 had problems, according to owners, with front brakes overheating and gearbox baulking once it got hot. Porsche said it was down to the driving style. Maybe true, but amazingly the Mk2 GT3 came with, lo and behold, improved brakes and a gearbox oil cooler.

997 GT3/RS has rear anti-roll bar set on full stiff. Porsche admitted this off the record but were king enough to tell us that if we bought and installed the 997 GT2 anti-roll bar the cock-up would no longer be there. Wish I could get away with such ludicrous treatment of my customers.

You think you'll be forging a new path for litigation. Don't worry it's a well trodden path but unfortunately it tends to lead nowhere of any consequence.
 
My second Tip (this time 997 Turbo) is fine and does have an advantage over the paddles I have tried in that you can change up and down on either side of the steering wheel. Useful on the track when you need really quick changes without flipping from one hand to the other. Up for up and down for down easy to remember... was it right paddle for up or left.....? The best Tip I used was on a 968 on the floor...

Seriously whichever you have now or later you will love and get used to quickly. I have been told that Tip is virtually unbreakable unlike clutches!
