New Porsche 944 owner and i hve a few questions....

ORIGINAL: will.hodgson

I'm in Garforth, soon to be moving nearer Pontefract though probably in the next month.

Cheers for the tips on the parts etc....

Do you do a meeting somewhere round here, something like an owners meet.

I'm in Crossgates, so not far away.

There is a Porsche Club GB meeting first Wednesday of the month at Monk Fryston near Selby. There is also a TIPEC (The Independant Porsche Owners Club) meeting at Dunnington near York first Tuesday of each month, so next one is this coming Tuesday. I'm going for first time; if you are interested let me know. I think its the x-mas quiz.

Righto

To keep it all to one page i'll add the new questions here.

The oil pressure sits at 4 when warm which i beleive is right? but flickers around a little when warming up. Does that sound about right?

The fuel gauge and temperature gauge both flicker about a little randomly, i guess there is a problem with the dial but is it an easy fix or a replacement?

Would anyone happen to know if power steering can easily be added? I'm pretty sure it was an option so expect all the associated holes/mounting points will be there? Whats the costs in parts and is it home mechanic job... i realise a steering rack might be required.

Where do i but the clear indicator lenses and is there anywhere that does alternative rear clusters, think i'm happy at the moment with them but would like a look at whats available.

Who does decent (sport?) suspension? I'm interested as it all feels a little tired and i wouldn't mind sharpening it up i guess there are alternative (polyurethene?) bushes too?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the radio connectors as someone has decidede a birds nest mixed with connector blocks is a good option. Yuk! I like it all to be nice and smart......

Do the clocks/instuments pull out easy as i need to fit a new bulb. I read about replacing them with leds but i'm happy with standard stuff.

The 3rd setting on the heater works intermittently but only when you turn it past the notch a little which obviously isn't perfect so is not acceptable. Any suggestions as to a fix?

Oh yeah as said this car will be perfect asap as i like the little details. [:)]

The more info and bits you can suggest the better.

Cheers

Will

Although this is only my oppinion as with many bits you'll find I'd say the standard suspension on the 944 feels really really good, much harder and it just gets annoying and slows you down on 'B' roads (ALA BMW M5, 996 Carrera 4S) if your driving on a track alot then its definately too soft (again in my oppinion) but otherwise replacing worn bits with new standard suspension will probably bring you most satisfaction in the long run.

Ben

p.s. M030 suspension on a 15+ year old car will make you find more sqeeks and rattles than you ever thought possible!!! - Not sure whether it can be fitted to v.early cars anyway? Anyone?

Cheers for the info. I'm thinking the suspension might be ok maybe just the bushes and possibly the nice fat tyres, thinking that maybe some cup wheels and lower profile tyres might sharpen things up somewhat.

Cheers for the link on the lights and the heater info. I shall be warm and seen this winter.

By replacing your old and tired shock absorbers with new will probably improve the ride and handling to no end but even so you'll still find it too soft for hard track work but perfectly adequate for the odd track day, it'll just roll a bit. Not sure about the possibility of retrofitting M030 to early offset cars but I don't see why it might not be possible but it would require the upgrading of your rear torsion bars - a pretty pricy job. I personally think unless you are going to track the car regularly you want to stay with the same spring rates to avoid having to mess around with your torsion bars. Koni offer straight replacement shock absorbers if you want to stiffen up your dampind rates more.

Theres a set of cups lying in a garage up here for sale £500

Pic available contact me direct

Bear in mind Will needs early offset wheels, so they need to be replicas (or he needs spacers).
