New Register Secretary

early 911

Moderator
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Philip Taysom is taking on the role of early 911 register secretary (pmjt on this forum). He strikes me as a mega enthusiastic, forward thinking, hands on sort of bloke, with a great background in Porsches . . early and late (and synthesizers[;)]). I've no doubt he's going to do some great things for the register . . . . I've seen some of his ideas, and I like them a lot. I hope to stay on as assistant.

Welcome Philip, and good luck .... not that you'll need it, honest guv.

[8D]good news indeed.

BTW does a sporto count as an erly 911[:-] i notice sporto has its own register....why? wouldn't have thought there was anough of them to warrent their own register.

Welcome Philip, and good luck with the Register.
I hadn't heard before that early 911s don't run well until the weather improves - but each time I have anything done to me at the hospital I am asked for my date of birth. I am slowly coming to the realisation that yes, maybe I am myself an "Early model!

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments - and mostly to Phil J for all his hard work over the past years and support in my appointment. I'll try humbly to follow on his good work [:)] Phil has kindly agreed to stay on as assistant and guide me as I try and work out what I need to do for all Register members.

As for the register - I've been looking through and it's fallen in numbers over the past few years - so we need to get each and every early car documented to preserve this important information for future owners as well as current. I may be courting controvosy here - but I want to try and document cars that are owned by non-members as well - including those UK cars that might have gone to Australia, Japan and South Africa - the more data we can compare the more support I can provide Register members.

As for your Sporto Helen - it most definitely belongs in both registers - Peter Cook has done superb work in recording each of these (increasingly) rare cars over the years - I'm planning on meeting up with Peter in the next few weeks to cross reference the register data he has with the Early Register. I also want to try and cross reference the archive as many of our Early cars have been featured (possibly with previous owners?) in Porsche Post over the past 45 years!

And on that note - I'm planning on contacting everyone on the register - both current and past members - seeking much more information than is currently held - Nic Doczi has kindly agreed to set up additional fields on the Club's database (by way of a separate, related database) - and I'm working out what additional data we need, to capture things like:

- Date of registration
- Original Index (reg. no if changed from when first registered)
- Comission no. (fairly easy with the first cars as it was simply the chassis number repeated!)
- Original Engine No. (if engine changed)
- Current Colour name
- Current Colour code
- Original Colour (Name) (if changed)
- Original Colour (Code) " "
- Original Market
- Supplying Dealer
- Colour photographs of exterior and interior
- Featured in Porsche Post Archive? (date of PP, page no.)

etc. etc.

So come on everyone, dig out your history files and let's build this register on the excellent work Phil's started.

And as I'm here to represent Early 911 owners, tell me what you want [:)]

I'm working on a few 'secret' ideas - more info as it comes together - but first on my list is a 'Pre-74 only' Track Day - I've spoken to Steve Kevlin at length and he is kindly looking into dates that will work, at circuits we can keep the cost as low as possible - and I'm hoping to get some Early car specialists along - as well as a couple of surprise guests [;)]

My suspicion is that if early car owners could get on a track with no modern, faster cars - we might get a good turn out - and hopefully this might turn into an Early 911 / 912 / 914 / 356 meet [8D] and enable Early car owners to experience a track day without the worries about being 'carved up' by faster, more modern cars.

Anyho - first job is to pull together as much data as I can - and contact everyone to get their data updated.

Let me know what else you'd like [:)] - and keep the Early 911 faith [;)]

Philip

Great idea, let's see what we can do to get this off the ground.

Hi Philip.

I am not currently on the early register, so you won't be contacting me, but have all the details you are looking for on my 73E as I recently contacted the factory to find it's original spec. What's the best way to get them to you?

Also would be very interested in early track day. Great idea.

Ian.

Many thanks for the post - if you could email me through the forum, I'll add you to the list of people to send my new register form to (still working on it [;)]) - would be wonderful to add another 'E' to the numbers [:)] - one of the things I want to do is also record a couple of photos for each car - if you have some digital images that would be perfect - failing that I can scan hard copy pictures and return them.

Philip
