New RO for R10

Ray - Stony could be good too (still on the A5 "˜corridor') - doesn't necessarily have to have a separate room (although would be best), just a reasonable area which is quiet-ish and a little apart from the main bits (and that the owner will not charge us anything for[;)], of course).

I think we will keep our search now to this part of the A5, as several possibles have become apparent and not a million miles away from our OPC venue.
Where do you suggest?

P.S. To all region 10 members - I'll be hoping to see a bit more of you all when this new venue is up and running... so get out there and enjoy your cars (even if autumn is here)!![:D]

Paul,
My first suggestion would be 'The Crown' on the Market Square, good car parking right outside, has quite a large upstairs room, probally seat up to 70 people. Has an area at the back we could also use, small walled garden at the rear for the summer.
If members were interested I would need to speak to the management to make sure on the occasions we required it, there would not be a charge for the upstairs room.

Ray - thanks. If you could have a word with proprietors asking about a monthly (2nd Tuesday in the month) gathering. Is the car park secure/large enough for at least 20 cars?

Paul,
The car park is the Market Square, holds approx 100 cars, obviously not secure. I park there frequectly without issues. Be good for you to have a look before I approach 'The Crown' though. Perhaps a quick pint and a look round so you have knowledge to compare with elsewhere?
Ray

Hi Paul,

Well done on volunteering for the new RO post, and good luck for the future. I am sure you will do an excellent job.

I look forward to catching up at the next meeting.

In relation to your Pub search. It may be just me. But personally I am not keen on leaving my Car in Public car Parks, and out of sight. What do other members think on this ?

I know the Crown, and it is a very nice Pub. But if I was going to visit Stony Town centre for any other reason, I would always take my Van.

Don't forget, you can check out many of these locations on Google maps. Street view. That will save you from having to go drinking in ALL the pubs suggested. [&:]

My partner and I have already road tested The Bell Inn in Beachampton

www.thebellrestaurant.co.uk

It's in the country with a nice car park (room for a display also) with ample seating inside and out.
Also the food served is really nicely presented and good value.

Great, I think you mean Beachampton, not Wheathapstead.....[:)]

You're a wealth man, Paul, a wealthy man! Looks very nice, though.

I must say I am impressed by how dedicated the region membership are in testing these venues for the good of the Club.

So am I - hope everyone's as dedicated in turning up on our region night, once we decide on one![:)]

That's a shame, Bob. Maybe we can get somebody to drive us round them all while we sample the ales?[:D][:D]
And yes, I agree, it is good to have reasonable sight of your car when parked up.

Blimey, Paul, I didn't realise your 924 has had so much tarmac under it (924 2.0 1983MY - 213,500m!!)... great.

Hi All
Agree with Bob in some respects, and our existing venue is great in that regard, but I had no real concerns when Paul and I paid a visit to the Old Talbot on Sunday, Obviously the next pub meet will be at night so if members would more comfortable to come in another vehicle that would be great. Summer should be less of a problem and don't forget we will still be attending the Porsche centre

I actually think that The Old Talbot could be a good bet, as it's on the A5 not far from our other venue, so reasonably central to region again.

I'll wait a little longer to see if any better suggestions emerge, then we'll make a decision.[;)]

Apparently the Old Talbot (Potterspury) is very nice now, having just undergone a renovation. My wife also suggested the Navigation at Castlethorpe. Both have good parking, and serve good food.

Wealthy? Far from it Chris, been out of work for a month - but we had a bar snack which was as big as a main meal in some places [:)] I can vouch for the sausage ciabata and the jacket potatos at least

Paul I've had the car for nearly 11 years when it was at 150,000 miles and It just passed the MOT yesterday [:)][:)]

And yes I did mean to say Beachampton

Hi, Not sure where to post this question but was wanting to get an understanding of what the meetings are all about and what goes on?
Being a brand new member who doesn't know anyone and also having not been to something like this before I was wondering what to expect if I joined in.
Thanks

Welcome to the region!

The best thing you can do to find out more, is come along to our next monthly daytime meeting at Silverstone Porsche Centre, Towcester, Northamptonshire NN12 6PF on the 13th November, 1pm-4pm.

You'll find we are a friendly collection of Porsche owners, very enthusiastic about our cars. You can take part as little or as much as you like. We attend/organise events (motorsport is very popular in the region,;having Silverstone Circuit just down the road helps[;)]), talks, social occasions, etc of interest to all members - actually, we're at a time of thinking of new ideas for the next season year calendar, so your suggestions for anything you'd like to do (car related, or otherwise!) will be very gratefully received...

Come and join in, it'd be good to meet you!

As Paul says, the Regional aspect to Club life is the social side - Registers (996, Boxster, early 911, 924, etc) provide the more technical support to members on their cars. But in addition to speakers and just gassing about cars, recent events and favourite drives/motoring trips, the meetings do give an opportunity to ask other people about their experiences of, say, local garages and bodyshops, tyre depots, insurance brokers, etc. It is meant to be inclusive, not exclusive and we try hard to avoid cliques. However, it always helps when a new person turns up if they try to track down the RO and introduce themselves - I know from experience it's very hard to keep track of everyone's names (its easier for most visitors to remember the RO as there is only one of them!). Come along - its friendly and costs nothing other than the petrol getting there. Spouses, partners, friends and children welcome (not in any particular order[:D][8|]!)

Great bunch of people too, who all get as excited as the next when talking porsche........

Come along you won't be made ti feel left out being new......

Hopefully see you soon.
