It's great to have a new Taycan Register Jon. Congratulations Jon on setting this up for all current and prospective owners of Porsche's incredible new Taycan.
l thought l would post my initial thoughts following a couple of weeks of ownership of a Gentian Blue Taycan 4S with the standard 79.2kWh battery. Long distance travel was not a priority for me so opted for smaller battery and spent difference on Led Matrix headlights, ParkAssist including surround view, 20-inch Turbo wheels and Black leather interior. Definitely adds to the overall desirability of the car adding additional quality and comfort.
l expressed my interest to Porsche Silverstone back in 2018 when the Mission E concept was unveiled and subsequently placed an order when the 4S was released in Dec 2019. As a result l was fortunate to be the first 4S on order at this dealership resulting in the car being delivered to Sheerness Port in Kent on the day before lockdown !! It stayed there until 21st May and was ready for collection on 27th May when showrooms were still out of bounds but l could collect my car with very limited handover. All precautions were in place to sign the necessary paperwork on a desk with a screen to segregate customer and dealer. The car was driver from the workshop to side of the showroom and after a quick verbal overview of the cars functionality and a look at the package containing the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect l was given the keys. There was no setting up of vehicle options as access to interior was limited to just the driver. A couple of weeks ahead of collection l did complete the registration for Porsche Connect and also the Porsche Charging Service for access to charging stations Porsche have agreed to use. In addition there was a £219 charge for the Car Vehicle Tracking System. There were issues in getting Connect and Tracking systems implemented but l don't know what caused the problems.
l needed to spend a considerable amount of time trawling through the manual in setting up the numerous options offered in in PCM system. The most complex was the Charging Profiles which enabled me to set up alternatives depending on where l was going to charge the car. For now it was all home charging as the nearest available Porsche service is 30 miles away from my home. The problem l initially had was not fully understanding how to set up a profile. As a result the charger limited the amount of charge going into the vehicle. l had 55% of charge left but somehow l had set the profile to 25% and until l changed this to 85% l was stuck with a decreasing battery. l even booked the car in to fix the problem until l used the Good to Know App which explained the setup. There is also lots of good advice on the TaycanForum website which l would recommend you read prior to picking up your car. Setting up the Porsche Mobile Charge Connect is straight forward although does take time.It was in all a very steep learning curve.
The car is really amazing to look at and although very few people know what it is on the road it does get some admiring looks.
Some petrol heads know what it is but most people don't realise that Porsche have a full EV car on the market.
The interior is of the highest quality and when seated you do feel you sitting in a very special car. It is certainly nice to get back into a low er seated car after owing a couple of Macan's. Performance is outstanding and with 523 BHP more than enough for most drivers. The 4S besides being the most affordable Taycan is regarded as the best choice of the range.
It is virtually silent in operation and l have had difficulty in knowing when it is switched on. One feature which is new to me is that when you unlock the car, get in, close the door and drop your keys next to the PCM the car switches on automatically and you are ready to go. Great feature.
l have not really been able to measure distance yet with the battery as l have only travelled about 300 miles. Would like to do a long run to determine 'real' mileage rather than the low EPA range of 203 miles.
Very thrilled with the car and hopefully will have some great moments driving it and experiencing the incredible acceleration it offers.
Hope some of this helps.
