New to 912

Hi guys!

New to the 912 Porsche forum, and my new Porsche 912 is our new member of our family of cars.
Before I waffle about my 912, can I say thank you to Gav, for sending me a 912 register sticker, that was very nice of you.

Anyway, this 912 of mine was bought just last week. Its a 1965 model, in left hand drive, and in Slate grey (just like Battleship grey!) It is not the best of conditions like the ones you guys have, but its around 70% decent.

After reading through the buyers guide to a 912, the basis of the car is solid and dry as a bone. It has very little rust, and almost everything is intact. Except the original bootlid, and the toolkit. Structurally, it is A1, and has the odd scratch, and a few odd dents.

I hope through time, this project, you guys will be here to support and advice, because this type of age car is all new to me. Just like owning a Beetle!!

Pictures of her will be shown when I bring her out from the garage.

Welcome - doesn't matter what condition she's in - she's yours [:)] Welcome to the world of SWB ownership - they're wonderful cars.

There are some very knowledgeable people here and on the DDK forum (www.ddk-online.co.uk) for 912's so ask if you've got questions - otherwise, get her out of the garage and enjoy [:D]

welcome.
my 912 was my first ever second hand car, i had always bought new before and she(and my friends at DDK forum) has completly change my view on owning cars and my enjoyment of driving has returned.

wonderful wonderful cars with no gadgets what so ever to aid you means YOU are the driver again something that i fear is being engineered out of the modern cars.

Welcome again Norm!
Glad you got the sticker ok. Ask away if you have any questions, lot's of 'lurkers' here who will be able to help.
Let's see some pics of your car, Slate Grey is one of my favourite colours for a 912, is the interior red?

spotted NO orange strip badge! but all other bits intact and original I hope. annoying things is the drivers door not aligned properly from the hinge point!

912side.jpg

Body was straight with little rust! and floor thats no rotted and dries a bone! ~Love to chrome plate the steel wheels. And most important ...total bareshell restoration!

912rear.jpg

Note:the rear lid isnt shut properly, but still needs aligning. Rear engine boot lid changed for later lid with gold lettering, and numberplate panel soon to be changed back back to normal with exhaust exiting the normal left end.

Lots of work to do!! whose up for some dirty hands and some elbow grease?

Thanks guys and gals, for a nice warm welcome!

Out of curiousity, how much is this model worth and market price?? Not sure if I paid over the odds!!

BTW (like my own) the headlights are from a slightly later era too. they shouldn't have the slight lip in the top of the glass.

but, unless you are a complete sado/anerak then nobodys going to notice or mind.

I know this car VERY WELL!!!!! I remeber it when it first came in to the UK

Oh dear I need to get out more... this is happening too much as soon as I see a 912 then I know most of it's history who imported it and who restored it and blar blar blar.... Jo my love your right I need to get out more..[8|]

You bought it from a nice guy in Liverpool

The car was orginaly bought by an EX!! mate of mine who is a f****8******* and I first looked to buy this car from Alex back in 2002 ish!!!in a barn in Berks who imported it from France from a lady who had owned the car for years in the South of France ( Nice from Memory ) But once I read the paper work and translated it there was some big gaps in the service history. It was being sold as a full service history car.. That is why I hate this Ex Mate becaue he is full of C*** Any way Alex sold this car to Chris he tidyed up the car and I think had some engine work done on the car and sold on Ebay . The guy in Liverpool bought the car and then found anumber of things wrong and he started settign out spending some money on the car to get it sorted.. I have the Bursh exhaust he fitted for a short time.. here..

Then as I understand he just got bored of it and wanted to sell it ... Enter you..

There that's all I can remeber on it..

Here is a picture of it back in 2002 ish and it is next to my burgany one that I trailered to the event as I had not finished it yet.. hence it's sticking up in the air....

Wow 912!!! that is correct. from the history, it does have an extensive history of reciept, import papers from France off a lady owner. Obviously, after it was imported, I have paperwork from you best of friends chris who owned it. And also have the copy of the ebay papers the car was sold at the time.

The engine has been rebuilt, and hopefully it will be stripped again, and refublished changing all odd bits ie pipework, wiring for new. And the bodywork is absolutely solid, with all bits that is mentions on the 912 register pointers, too meet good standard. underneath is dries a bone, and the beams and floor has no rot or rust.

The block who i bought it off is a Policeman, and obviously does not have the time or money to restore her. But i am intriqued to find out what number of problems the car has.

Already from my eye, the odd things have struck me and they are:

1. tailgate bootlid changed
2. drivers door off aligned from the hindge side
3. central exhaust I hate and will be rectified soon (looking for reg. plate panel if anyone has one, and either a double leading to single exit pipe)
4. bodywork has the odd little surface rust
5. additional exterior mirror to passenger, which isnt a bad thing but unoriginal
6. engine bay needs cleaning up

but apart from that she is bonny!!

show u some more pics later......
912...do you have anymore pics of the car next to yours in that particular meet? and can you share anymore memorable info of the car? how much was she when you was to buy her?and was you serious at the time in buying her? and is that why you fell out or the reason why you call the friend of yours these names[:D]

it is nice to see people already know the car, because im just learning about her.

Is it a bad thing not having the original boot lid, etc??

912...estimated cost of her when at the time you was to buy her, and cost now?

I fell out with Chris Over a VW Beetle when the little **** ripped me off. It turned out the 50/50 Partner ship was actually 100% me paying the bills and him taking the profit... He does this alot and that is why he has no real mates. If some thing happened to Chris the cops would ask so who doesn't like Chris...WELL how about 98% of the VW population......

Any way Yes I will have photo's but I am not sure where they are. Alex was the importer and I wasn't going anywere over £2000 but then when I saw it I changed my mind..I walked away. Then then next thing Chris Turns up at my house to borrow a road trailer I had and this was late at night and the next thing I know I get a phone call from him he had been pulled over by the Police and he they wanted to talk to the trailer owner.. So I knew something was odd and going on.. Any way the next week was this show as in the picture and in he comes with this grey 912 and I knew then it was the one I saw a month before.. I also knew the VW beetle most have paid towards it as he never has any money... I don't know who did the paint work? I think they guy you bought it off..must have..

He fitted a new Bursch and then changed his mind so I bought the Bursch it's like brand new.. So I will fit this to my 69 next year for a change...

The rear valance I might be interestd in it as I want to do some cut outs so I could do some cut and shunts on the panel..

Small world

I will say the guy in Liverpool seamed a nice genuine guy.. and was doing alot of work to get the car right and from the pictures it seams he has been doing a grand job well done.. on your purchase..

WOW, what a friens huh, you pay for the car as a 50/50 venture, and when it came to selling it, you get the price of the car, and him keep the profit......dats unfair deal!

Anyway, whats the past is the past! Listen 912, sorry to be rude, but what do I call you? obviously not 912!!

When it comes to knowing more of the history and more about the car, your the guy who will probably know more than me on her. It was quiet similar occurance, because I bought a Mk1 golf GTI at one time, never knew anything about her, but all the past came back to me including service history!!

this is why im intriqued, and Im sure anyone would be when it comes to pther people knowing more about your new car. If you do ever come accross some pictures from past event, please let me know.

Yes, the guy who I bought it off is genuine bloke. Would you say it was true when he bought the car back in 2003, that it would have cost £6000??because I have the Ebay slip that proves he won it from Gosport from a user name Chris5124s?

Was you going to buy it, dont know what you mean you didnt go anywhere with £2000, was that you couldnt afford it at the time??

anyway...I ve just cleaned her a little on the exterior, just to know her a little more.

That's a preeeettty car [:)] As for the engine lid - don't worry - she's 41 years old and by the time you hit 41 all sorts of bits have been replaced [:D]

For a rear number plate panel - try Forest Fine or Roger Bray - they also come up in the US on evilBay quite often.

Hope we get to see her out at an event some time soon - and in the meantime, drive her like you stole her [;)][8D]

P

yep will try Roger bray or Transend, spoke to Pete, and he has one.

think I have sourced one, but not sure the prices of them, did price it up at porsche and they want £160[]

Anyway, anyone else has one out there, give me a shout!! Or swap wid 912 with my existing one!

PMJt .......drive her like you stole her!!! yeah needs tuning, running rich.....Do wish i could drive it like you say in your 911 RS[;)] is that what you have, as showin in your Atvar?
