Hello,

I have Had the 944 for about 6 weeks

I have been watching but unable to post......until now

Thanks for your help PAUL, it was my anti popup programme.

Put a door mirror on today, found spray silicon on the locking ring makes things alot easier.

If somebody can explain how to add pictures I will post an interesting method showing
how to remove a door mirror without the pin removal tool or cutting wires.

Could not find an identical drivers seat at the breakers so its DIY......steep learning curve, I will keep you posted

Oil and filter change tomorrow, Going with Magnatec 10-40w (nice poll Paul)

Mike

Click on this and it should explain fully thanks to Fen.

Great that you finally got in Mike [:D] I wish I'd logged into the forum first instead of my email. You can ignore the last reply I sent you [;)]

Hi Jase' and welcome to the forum.

It is always difficult to diagnose a problem that is just a noise but banging is generally indicative of something being loose (in automotive terms at least [;)]). I think I'd look at the gear box mountings as a first port of call.

Hmmmmm, i see mr simms has broken in another new recruit, i know he likes the new ones, dont worry jase you will get used to the sense of humour on the forum, i think john was my first too i had been drinking pints of 20-50 that night followed by anti frreeze shots also in pint glasses, welcome to the forum jase... ps i hope you have joy with your banging noise your in good hands here....porsha has you now ha ha ha we are your fathers and you are the jedi, how strong is the force in you will be tested.....................

Other simple things to rule out:

Is the exhaust properly mounted?
Is anything loose in the rear arche storage bins?
Is the jack and spare wheel secure?

After that it needs to be put on a lift and checked underneath for any loose bolts

After the bits what Paul said................................I'll get me coat.

sorry about the delay in replying i worrk away all week and ddont have access to a pc. ill check all the things you have pointed out. sure ill be asking more questions in time lol. and also thank you for the welcome.

well to shed a bit more light on it the type of noise it is. if you have ever driven a rear wheel van and you let the clutch up and it bangs thats the sound i get with the porsche. never owned one before but really dont think it sould sould like that.

Could it be the clutch itself ?
944 clutches have rubber centres which are a notorious failing

Good call.

You could take the car to a specialist. They would most likely diagnose the problem within minutes and save you money replacing things that were otherwise fine.

cheers john i just need to find a specialist round the lincolnshire area now as you say could save me a whole load of time and cash in the long run

Have a look at the drive shaft bolts, they tend to start breaking if a couple are loose.

Don't even need to jack up the car, just shine a torch from the rear. You will see them either side of the gearbox.

Exhaust is the favourite suspect for me. There isn't alot of room for a large back-box as there is a heat shield under there so if your exhaust is not hanging just right with all the rubber hangers in good nick the chances are you will get some banging. Mine does knock ever so slightly on the downshifts.

Hi Martin, you are very welcome!

I often head up to Denbigh way via the old Mold road in my 944, so might see you around![:)]

I see from the 944 colours thread that there is no picture of a Garnet Red Metallic car which I will rectify as soon as I can.

Hi Nick, it's a nice road from Mold to Denbigh with lots of interesting curves and if you know where to look the occasional stretch to pass the slower traffic. Let me know if you're going to be in the Bodelwyddan area and we'll try and meet up.

Welcome.

Mrs zcacogp and I do a Scripture Union camp each summer in Abersoch, on the Llyn Penninsula in North Wales. We usually travel from Bridgnorth to Shrewsbury where we pick up the A5, then across to Lake Bala and over the hills ... you have some simply superb roads there on which to enjoy a 944!

Oli.
