Hi, Not owned a Porsche before that had the engine in the front but have been looking for a nice 968 for a while now, found this one and picked it up today. Really pleased with how it drives but now need to learn all about them. Looking forward to driving it and having fun with it in the new year.
If any complaint, it is very quite, is there a nice exhaust about for them ?, not to make it sound stupid, just a bit more noise and it needs 4 new tyres, not worn out but different makes back to front.
Sorry about the image, IPhone job.

congrats on the Purchase looks a nice car

Janspeed used to make exhausts for them but will only now make in batches of ten or more...

the best you can do these days is have one made by your favoured exhaust place, there have been a few done and one by the register sec.
Infinity Exhausts http://www.infinity-exhausts.co.uk/show_gal?rp=gals&r=3&gox=Porsche
that's kens car
some in the USA have Cargraphic systems but they are not available here

think if I was in the market I would try out Vortex Exhausts
http://www.vortexexhausttechnology.com/

but its about choice I guess, if you need any advice or help drop me a line

Hi Steve,
l hope you enjoy your new old car. I bought my first Porsche this year and got a Porsche 968 convertible, which i bought as a weekender. Not sure about the exhaust with regard suppliers but I'm having belts done in Jan at SVP Rushock Worcestershire and may need mine doing, they have mentioned they can supply a st/st exhaust. Let me know if you have any luck.
cheers
bob

Very nice Steve, looks lovely.
As Martin said, Janspeed do a nice exhaust if you can get hold of one or JC Weldfab do a very good system (sounds great) at a more expensive budget, that's the one Ken Coad has on his CS.

just to make you aware the standard system on the car is stainless, the only bit that fails is the side seam on the rear box, but as that is in one bit with the middle box the Porsche replacement is £1500

you really do have to want the change in sound to justify the cost

Hi Blade
in answer to your question "Does the reg start with L126 ? ", no it doesn't, it's on a M plate, it had run on a private plate earlier in it's life from Scotland.

Looks very nice and not too dissimilar to my own.

Enjoy. Hope you'll pop into the 968uk forum too (if you haven't already).

Good, there was a red 94 Sport with black wheels that had a big shunt.

Hi Steve, When I bought my 968 (at 89,000 miles) it was a very subdued exhaust note at all engine speeds below about 4,000rpm (standard system as fitted from new). However, I discovered with regular use and occasional 'red lining' the system cleared of carbon deposits. Now, when the system is hot, it growls at 1,500 and barks from 4,000 upwards. At all other speeds it's subdued and cruses quietly.

Another successful "Italian tune-up"!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: 968's definitely enjoy an occasional spirited use. I've also found they're happier on 98/99RON petrol than on standard unleaded, and for the limited mileage I do in mine (normally 3k miles pa) the additional cost is minimal.

Thank you for the info, since picking the car up I haven't driven it as we have been away. I'll tax it in the next day or two, then have good drive in it and see how it sounds.
Today I found someone who will build me an exhaust but I will try the spirited drive first first.
Tyres are my next priority, looking at Michelin Pilot Sport 2's or Goodyear, anything better ?.

Steve, can't make my mind up from the photos whether your car is on 17's or 18's, but as they look like Cups (guessing cup 2's as it's M reg) I'd guess they're 17's.

My coupe was on 16's, I tried original equipment Yokohamas, then Contis and Bridgestones, the latter were the best of the 3, the Yokos had really good grip but wore out rather quickly. My cab is also on 16's, I recently put Goodyear Efficientgrips on the rears and am very happy with them. However, in June I put 17's on my MB estate and fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics all round, EU rating AAB, and we love them. Not only do they give excellent grip and ride, they are really quiet. Unfortunately I could not get the same in 16", hence the Efficientgrips on the cab!

Depends what you're after - road use and comfort, or more spirited and track oriented. There's quite a bit of info and debate on 968uk, well worth joining as it's far more useful for 968 owners despite Ken's best efforts to regenerate the 968 forum on here.

At the moment it's got Bridgestone on the rear 255/40/17 and Kuhmo on the front 225/45/17, all OK but I would rather they all be the same and I haven't checked the ages.

HI Steve reckon Michelin Pilot Sports are suited to 968's don't transmit road noise, great for rod holding etc bought mine from Micheldever Tye Co nr Winchester. On the subject of exhausts Weldfab of Wellingborough were without doubt spot on making me a complte stainless from manifold to tail pipe and with the best pipe bending no creases on the bends think its called manderel bending, and replaced the catalyitic bit as well, maximum performance without roaring in your head money well spent, rgds Ken Coad reg sec 968 PCGB

Some of us can't afford the money you spent on your exhaust Ken, no matter how lovely it is!![:D][:D]

Steve, you'll probably find your rear tyres wear rather more quickly than the fronts, so you may want to wear out the Bridgestones before going for 4 the same all round!

I have just had fitted a set of Yokohama Advan sport V105, only driven it about 7 miles home since fitting, of course it was pouring with rain, on greasy roads and brand new tyres complete with all that lovely mould release oil, a great recipe for getting the car a bit skewwhiff on the first bend.
Next job is to fit the new exhaust ( Janspeed ), Promax chip and K&N air filter followed by a full service.

Steve, just noticed you have a GR coupe with black and red interior - have you seen the 8 way seats listed this morning on Ebay?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-968-R ... SwpRRWn1QF, £700

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-968-R ... SwCypWnmMU, £175

Comment from Mr 968 (on here) on 968uk :

The owner contacted me for some advice so I know a little bit of history on these, they came out of a modded up CS, the chap is taking the CS back to more standard CS spec.

From conversations the chap has a lot of classic cars in his collection.
