New turbo - 3.8l 500bhp - PDK->

Given the comments being made on the forum about the Gen 2 PSE I think the Gen 2 Turbo is going to be a very quiet car unless Porsche put a special exhaust on it. The Turbo is quite a bit quieter than a normally aspirated car.

Can anyone explain how the different pieces of the RS Spyder wheel hub fit together?

And what sort of special tool do you need to take them off? Or is it a job for the OPC?
Terry

Yes, it's the downside of these wheels. Apparently, the car does not come with the tool to get them off and I've got a question out about obtaining one. Heavy duty torque wrench required, 460 Nm plus the tool itself.

Is the tool not the part shown on the right?
The plate bolts to the hub and locks on with the red studs, the centre cap holds the wheel in place and the part on the right pushes in the locking mechanism and loosens the centre bolt..[&:]

All a wild guess mind you....

Gary I think you're right, take a Gold Star! I guess the Porsche crest part comes out and the piece on the right fits in and over it. I understand you need a torque multiplier to do the nut up securely and easily.

Specc'd mine yesterday, fingers crossed for a VAT increase busting December delivery.

The web-based configurator is still the Gen I- did your OPC have access to the full spec and did you receive any info. as to either a sports exhaust or a front end lifter being available from the start - any other options that might not be clear also from web-special?

Yes, the dealer had access to the English configurator with tabs for other exclusive options such as contrast stitching which is of no interest to me. I kept the interior reasonably simple with just a couple of colour accents from the outside in.

No sports exhaust, no front-end lifter.

Can't understand why the configurator is not online. It mirrored the one on porsche.de.

Having a look at one in the flesh next month.

Will try and get some piccies and report back with first impressions then.

I've done the Turbo configurator thing online on the UK website. Not checked, but IIRC it was an off-shoot of the web special which enabled me to config. the Gen 2 Turbo.

Also looking forward to seeing it in the flesh next month! [:D]

I see my facelift Turbo speculation specifications got posted in this month's Porsche Post!

I wasn't too far off. 500PS/700Nm was smack on, but I have heard since that PDK can actually handle up to 780Nm so ZF must have developed a new version for Porsche as originally it was just 2 variants (450 and 700Nm).

No nose lifting, no deletion of sports chrono clock, no larger brakes, and no SPASM though.

Alex, not a bad prediction and especially useful to those that only read Porsche Post..

I think it's a pity you cannot delete the silly clock. There's now so much bundled with that option which has nothing to do with it - engine mounts, launch control, sport mode - that it's a must-have option but I doubt the clock itself has many fans.

As for the PDK being better than the old tiptronic, I think you can be sure of that. Drove the two back to back last year (not the turbo, obviously) and they are night and day different.

I was wondering what Porsche were going to spend with the 10's of thousands of pounds they are saving on the new engine. Seems like it's marketing material!

You know, if I hadn't already mod'ed my Turbo, a ruby red 997.2 Turbo Cabriolet with PDK paddles would be verrrrrry tempting....

Saying that, rumours for a spring release of the Turbo S (I 'predict' 520bhp with ceramics as standard) are flying about right now.

All that means though is the 991 will be out soon then as the Turbo S is usually right at the end of the model production...
