Loving the kinky wrap. [

]
Long overdue update!
I didn't get too much time to spend on the car in December - plus it was damn cold in the garage - but I eventually finished all the peripheral jobs that I wanted to do while the turbo was off and got the new turbo fitted just before Christmas - so still in time for the weather to make road testing and mapping just about impossible.[8|]
Been out in it this week though and it's certainly different.
The first evidence was the boost controller completely losing the plot. The Apexi AVC-R needs it's start duty to be set up somewhere in the ball park before it can adapt and then learn to control boost correctly. The new turbo is different enough that the Apexi's previous settings were so far out that it couldn't learn fast enough to get hold of boost at first.
Resetting the start duty and letting it "Learn" has now fixed that though - and the second evidence of change is now a scary lack of traction in anything slightly damp

My AFR's were also quite different (lean) so I've quickly remapped the WOT fueling just to get it safe, but I'm going to remap all the fueling & timing from scratch anyway.
I also added 2 extra knock sensors while the inlet was off and fitted a Link KnockBlock for logging knock, and a Link KnockLink for visual warning. These will hopefully come into their own when mapping the new setup.
The kinky wrap went on just fine, although time consuming and a bit of a PITA - don't know if it will make a difference but it looks cool! And yes, you can do this with the exhaust manifold in situ, but I think it would be very difficult if the crossover was still attached.
As you are all probably suffering from Shiny Withdrawal Syndrome, having just taken your Christmas decorations down, here's a couple of piccies......
I also did the underside on the inlet manifold with heat reflective tape from the same place.....
Again, don't know if it will work but it can't hurt!
I also finally gave in and did away with the factory airbox and snorkel.
I made space behind the offside headlight by getting rid of the ignition amplifier and headlight bumper brackets and fitted a Pipercross Venom enclosed filter and cold air intake using the existing hole in the inner wing.
Being enclosed, the Venom is nice and quiet - there is no "sucking/induction roar" that I associate with cone filters so I'm quite pleased with that - plus it's only pulling cold air in like the factory snorkel. It is a bit of a tight fit though. (I'll add a photo later - I thought I'd put one in my photobucket albums, but obviously not.)
For the time being I have just used the 3" flexible ducting that came with the induction kit to connect this direct to the turbo and so have not plumbed in the breather or dump valve outlet yet - I need to get something fabricated with those connections and then plumb it in - any ideas?
At the moment the DV vents straight to atmosphere and it's surprisingly noisy! Not only between gear shifts under boost, when it's really loud, but even just gently driving around you can hear the thing breathing out as you come off the throttle a little - it's really weird!
More photos in my photobuckup albums (link in sig) for anyone interested.
