New Turbo is here - something else a bit shiny!

ORIGINAL: barks944

Did you powdercoat the heatshields grey? They look almost like alu but I'm sure mine were rusty steel.

No, I cleaned them all up and then sprayed them with VHT Aluminium paint and baked them in the oven (shhh) ......

However, this kind of evolved as I took more and more bits off to do things "while you're at it" and if I'd realised just how many bits I was going to do that to, I'd have had them all powdercoated instead.[8|]

Might be able to help out with your intake, my dad is now making silicone hoses again. He can fabricate a mandrel to your spec and have a hose made up. When he did the water and intake hoses for my 951 the intake hoses were lined with fluorosilicone which has excellent oil resistance in case any oil gets into the intake. The fluorosilicone is too soft to make a hose from so reinforced silicone is used for the main structure. They were in my turbo for 6 months or so with no problems.

They look absolutely great Tom!

I was actually thinking of a stainless steel or polished aluminium section with a couple of angled ports but I've not really specced it out yet as I still need to decide whether to change the hard pipes - and therefore where the dump valve finally sits.

I also need to sort the plumbing out for my new catch can as I'm relocating the original one from the inner wing to where the factory air box used to be so I may drop you a pm if nothing comes straight to hand!

Cheers! [:)]

As I said earlier, the plumbing is just temporary and (for the eagle eyed) yes I know the throttle cable isn't bolted up yet on the last photo. [:D]

Looking like excellent progress Graham [:)]

It's good to heat that the Venom intake is a lot quieter than an open cone filter as it's one of the few things I dislike about mine. Could you tell me what size the piping is from the Venom to the Turbo? It looks like 3" which is what I need at a minimum because my turbocharger has a 4" intake

Paul, the compressor cover on my SPS turbo looks the same as a GT3076R (4" inlet, like on your turbo), and I heard of a guy running a GT3076R who replaced the original compressor cover with one with a 3" inlet, to gain room.
Perhaps you may be able to do the same?

Knowing how much Sly had to shroud the alternator with his LR75 (3" inlet), I can't even imagine how tight things must be on your set up...!

(I'm not concerned with this as we ditched the A/C when building the engine, so have plenty of room to play with)

Hi Paul,

The inlet side is 3" as standard with a removable reducer fitted. Taking this off turns it straight in to 4".

The outlet is 3.5" and it comes with various reducers - you could probably make it 4" with some cutting but there is not that much clearance by the flange where the headlight mechanism is.

I wanted to make it all 4" but gave up in the end and dropped it down to 3" for now as that is the size of my turbo inlet anyway. When I finalise it I'll try to increase it but it will still be tight over the alternator - I can't imagine how difficult your 4" inlet must be to work with - sounds like a nice problem to have though!
