New tyres - Michelins? 987 Boxster on 19's

Point understood MrDemon.

I wanted to keep with N rated tyres, and didn't want the Bridgestones again, but didn't want the Pirellis either.

Could have gone for PS4's but not N rated, but I was happier going for the Porsche approved tyres.

I'm not one to corner it on its door handles :ROFLMAO: so I'm confident they will serve me well

 
it's not about ragging the car it's about how poor a PS2 is in the wet and in the UK we have a lot of that wet stuff.

with every other car on modern tyres these days if you go ona motorway in the wet and there is a issue the car infront is going to stop a hell of a lot quicker than you are.

So it's quite a major safety concern choosing an old design and compound over new style styles.

The amazing MPSS came after the PS2 back in 2010 and then the PS4S after that so you can see how old that deign is now.

I am shocked you can still buy a PS2 to be fair. plus it was a PS4S not a PS4 I advised as did others, PS4's are hot hatch tyres.

As I say a shame, I don't under stand why people bother to ask when 3 people said get PS4S and you buy a 10 year old tyre !

If you wanted N spec for warranty only then the Good year F1 in N spec would have been the best choice in 19" imo.

Sorry if that's sounds a bit negative, but we all offered our best advice.

I read the reviews, I had recommendations on here and I went for the PS2.

I was also told by my Porsche specialist to go for N rated, so the N rating was high on the list.

Its not that I ignored your advice MrDemon.

10 year old car, 10 year old tyres lol [;)]

Let's see how we go.

PS, I'm amazed how poor a PS2 could be in the wet if its an A-rated wet tyre.

Anyway, better than the Bridgestones I had on.

Please don't let my purchase this time stop you from giving advice in the future MrDemon. [:)]

 
the PS2 N2 may well not be as good as the PS4S - I don't know I haven't tried it, but the PS2 N2 is still a brilliant tyre which really suits the 987 Boxster so I'm sure that JMR will be very happy with his new tyres.

(I have gone through three sets of PS2s on road and on track and have never found them to be "poor" in the wet)

I've just done a mini road trip for a couple of days up in to the Yorkshire Dales.

I went thro lovely warm sunshine, showers, gravel and snow and the car handled beautifully throughout.

I'm happy at the moment, summer will tell, when I'll be pushing a little more. [:)]

 
I agree with Wollemi. I used PS2's on my 997GT3 as a compromise tyre and they were absolutely fine in wet and indeed torrential conditions on road and track. I agree that there are newer and better tyres out there now (just had PS4S's fitted to 981S), but that doesn't mean that the older designs are suddenly bad.

 
I had Bridgestones fitted at my F1 Centre Incredible value well below 400.00 the set of 2 Rears N rated I know the guys and they fit tyres every day Don't know how you can compare a Porsches wear the a Honda

 
As posted elsewhere.

I've just put the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S , N0, 20 inch, on my cayman. I'm really impressed, much quieter, more compliant over bumpy roads, no Ackerman effect, excellent grip in wet and obviously good in the dry. Also the wheel rim protector part of the tyre protrudes a bit more than other tyres to give better protection against keeping. Only negative thing is the cost, but , as they say, you get what you pay for.
