Hello all...

Just joined this prestigious club, however, I am still waiting for my first Porsche having been saving and waiting my whole life!!

I have been told my car will be factory ready on May 13th but will take a further 2 weeks for collection...I am finding it incredibly hard to wait!! []

Know what you mean Platt.... My c4s is on the ferry now... Expected delivery this coming week... Couldn't be more excited! Ive dealt with it by reading the forums, the porsche manual (app) and burying myself in work :)
Hope the next few weeks 'fly by' as I'm sure it will be all the better for the wait.
P.s. Good colour choice.... But then i am biassed lol

Doing pretty much the same here!!! exciting time but frustrating time!

If i knew mine was on a ferry Id be tempted to go meet it at the port and drive it home!!!

enjoy and pls send pics!

Hi Paul
We look forward to seeing pictures in a couple of weeks - don't forget to take your camera to the OPC when you collect your new motor and post the results.

Hello all...

Just joined this prestigious club, however,
I have changed your "status" to Club member and you can now access the members only areas. Not long to wait now - you'll love it.[:)]

Thanks...I am actually having the car delivered to ' my house ' as I live 300 miles from the OPC I purchased it from...

Will have to just take pics of delivery driver!!!

I have just been informed the car will be born on the 9th May - up to 2 weeks from then [;)]

Car is ready but I am waiting to hear back from my Porsche salesman!

Pinged him an email off first thing this morning but alas no reply.....

Are you enjoying yours?

Might be worth giving them a call... Mine didnt get some of the e-mails i sent but always took a phone call and it definitely helps move things along. Their aim will be to complete the transaction by month end so you need to keep the pressure on to bring it forward!

I'm loving every single minute with mine thanks and enjoying opening it up little by little as it gets the miles on it... Still a long way to go before i can hit sports + button but I'm definitely getting into the power band now and the power-noise-feel sensation is fantastic - all the better for having driven it carefully for 500 miles in anticipation! It also corners with fantastic stability... infinitely better than my AMG...

You've got a fantastic treat on the way and it WILL be worth the wait... !

Not sure if you are aware but there is a 'Good to Know' app by porsche for iphone/ipad which contains the entire instruction manual plus some videos etc... Saves a lot of space and you can read ahead all the pleasures to come! Think i must have read it through several times whilst awaiting delivery :)

Good luck!

Great thanks I shall get the app right away...

500 miles before you can launch the sports/sports plus system? never new that!!

I have PDCC do you know if this can be used right away?

If you have any other tips and info please let me know.

I shall my man in the morning to hopefully speed things up or at least get an update.

Really pleased you are enjoying your car and can't wait.....

Official break in according to the manual is 1865 miles (3000km) and there aren't any specific instructions other than avoiding short journeys and high revs (which implicitly precludes using sport plus mode as it is designed to stay near the redline). I searched the internet on break in regimes for modern cars as i really want to maximise life of the car and the results are full of contradiction and extremes... They key takeaways which are middle ground and generally agreed upon are...
1) allow the engine OIL to reach 75c before high engine load - this is true for all cars, new or old. It is important to note this takes longer to achieve than coolant temp (6-8miles typically) and fortunately there is a dial for this in the 991... And a reading on the MFD in vehicle display default settings
2) during break-in stick to a max rev limit of circa 4200 rpm... But use ALL the revs in this range... This is one of the most important messages... The two worst things to do are run at constant revs for too long or run at too low revs 'lumping' the engine. It is okay to 'open it up' in this range a few times on each journey once the oil is warm. Don't worry to much about whether you hit 4200 or 5200 when opening it up... Just don't red line it or go silly whilst in the break in period... You CAN use sport mode in this range but not sport plus.... In fact sport mode makes it easier to vary the revs and avoid 'lumping' the engine.... And turn on the PSE and PDCC at will... Doesn't affect the engine
3) for the first few hundred miles go easy on the brakes and tyres as they are still bedding in.... As are some other mechanical surfaces eg bearings, suspension etc. This was my 500 mile reference and my general sympathy for all things mechanical

There's lots of science to the above which i will spare but in essence these are the less extreme and commonly agreed guidelines... You will always hear someone say 'drive it like you stole it to get the best compression' or 'drive it like an angel to get the best life'... And i think the truth is somewhere in the middle (as above)... I will certainly wait to 1800 miles before i really push the revs hard as i intend to keep my car for many years

Anyway, sorry for the essay... Just thought I'd shared my methods as i looked long and hard into this before setting off on my journey of getting to know the 991... And i realise I'm opening myself up to a barrage of opinions from the forum members!

Thank you for taking the time to give me this info, much appreciated and its sounds sensible!

Will keep you informed of my progress...

Sounds about right... Emden port in Germany to UK dealer plus Pdi and ready for collection took my car 6 days... With 'end of month motivation'. Add another 7 days for delivery to your house and two weeks doesnt seem unreasonable... Although you could push for end of next week to get the weekend to play!
