Newbie question - 996 servicing

Ok I’ve owned my 996 C2 Cab for 2 years and it’s had LOTS of work done to it in that time. And is now running and driving well!

But I don’t know what the factory servicing intervals are. Can someone tell me or point me in the right direction to find it.

Thanks

Stephen

Should be in the manual

Small service every 2 years (eg oil & filters)
Followed by large service every 2 years (plugs and other filters )

I appreciate you will know best, but I would strongly recommend an oil change every year if you have not upgraded the bearing that shall not be named or have an early Mk1 or a late Mk2 996. The IMSB seems to be a lot happier when its running in clean oil. Just IMHO and what I have read over the years of ownership.

Ian, I entirely agree that an annual oil and filter change is the best way to keep any engine healthy. I have been following this practice for all cars I have owned.
As regards the much maligned IMS, I wonder how many of the failures have been due to unsympathetic driving, including wrong slotted gear changes causing sudden forced over-revs and shock loads on the entire valve-train. In the US, Porsche's largest market, it was observed that few, if any cars specced with Tiptronic auto boxes suffered IMS failures.
Yes, the IMS is a weak point, but treat the engine with respect and it should serve you well.

I carry out a yearly oil change myself regardless of mileage, this can increase longevity of your engine by years.

I have mine serviced/ oil change every year and do about 5 k miles annually. I don't like the idea of sitting in a cold garage with 2 year old oil...
Now on 130 k miles so far.

Just my 2p worth... bought my 99 996 C4 last Nov at 106k miles. Serviced every year since new and i am having a full service incl brake fluid, gearbox oil, spark plugs and oil change at MLR in Stoke on Dec 9th. She's just clicked over 113k now.
My understanding was 996's , especially the 3.4, need a service every year, flipping between minor and major services.
Original dual row IMS and running strong and smooth with no signs of any oil use or leaks.
Now on my 2nd service book.
My opinion is that these cars need regular driving and regular oil changes.

Great that you have clocked up 7K miles in a year. Laying up over winter does the car no favours. They don't have to be used every day but there is nothing better (for me and it) than taking my 987 out for a brisk couple of hours on dry autumn and winter days.

Absolutely, i ran 986.2 and 987.2 Boxsters for quite a few very enjoyable years... the only pre-requisite being heated seats with the roof off... Boxster heaters are excellent, as are Porsche in general. I make sure i drive the 996 weekly regardless and have no intention of parking her up for the winter.....!!!!
