Newbie saying Hi!

Thanks all for the tips and advice... just ordered myself a throttle cam..... makes sense as there is far too much travel in the pedal.

Looking to get a nice cone filter perhaps a pipercross or K&N... anyone recommend one?

Hey Nick... i see you are not too far away... i am only in Bolton

Any future meets of get togethers planned in the next couple of months?

Mike, there is a meeting for the R5 & R18 guys (PCGB regions) every month - the R18 guys meet north of Preston and the R5 guys over near Stockport; check the two region areas on this forum.

Alternatively there are two equivalent areas in TIPEC, who meet near Blackrod and Knutsford - I was planning on trying out the Knutsford one this month, just to say hello!

There is also a few of the 944 boys who held a northern version of the Ace Cafe meet last month on the Wirral (Lee 'Lemon' arranged it) which was a great night, hopefully to be repeated soon, now that Lee has got his car back[:D]

Your nearest specialist is Hartech and it's fair to say that they have forgotten more about 944s than most people have ever known, so handy having them on your doorstep. They did a full inspection/warts & all service when I first got my car and I have a 6 page report detailing all areas. Ask for Barry, he's the 'guvnor' and owner.

There are quite of few of us 944 owners in the North West now, with Mike220 in St Helens who has recently bought a 220 turbo, not to mention a few guys in the Preston area.

Have fun![:)]

Just in case you hadn't noticed, I think it is only fair to warn you that Oli has spent a little too much time smoking 'herbal' cigarettes, hence his slightly deluded perspective on S2 vs Turbos....[;)]

His psychiatrist does tell us, however, that they expect him to make a full recovery from the recent deep trauma brought on by a melted welly boot.....Allegedly[:D][:D]

Runs for cover.........[:(]
Nick, can I suggest some of these:

... 'cos you'll need to run really fast, and don't go thinking you can outpace my S2 in your turbo, OK!

(Mike, as I said, there is a fair amount of forum banter on here and you'll get used to it!)

Cheers Nick,

Nice to see that there a a few other members nearby... definately up for a meeting sometime soon... will keep an eye on upcoming events... the Knutsford sounds good if i can make it.

I've used a Green cotton filter for a few years and it's been great, but I'd imagine all the famous brand names are much of a muchness. One of the plusses with Green filters is that you can buy the oil from Halfords so they're dead easy to maintain. I've always avoided foam filters, knowing how foam deteriorates over the years and turns into a powder which is the last thing I'd want if I forgot to change it in time. However racers seem to like them, so what do I know, perhaps they've been treated somehow?

What about tuning chips.... has anyone had them fitted and can you recommend any particular brand?

Seen the usual stuff on Fleabay.. but always a bit wary

I've not heard of any real benefit from chipping a Lux. Spend the money on the important bits first. Fully serviced and up to date, belts, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm, ht leads, fuel filter etc. Sort the brakes, suspension and then look at upping the power.

Hi Paul,

I have considered the tuning approach however i am not looking to do anything drastic just yet;

a/ i cannot afford to do everything at once

b/ As you rightly say... i want to make sure that everything else is tip top first before i consider anything else

and also to be honest... i am the same with every car i've had.... i just like to be informed about the possibilities and benefits of each mod before going ahead and buying..... so anymore info greatly appreciated.

Must say... i am very pleased with the general attitude with this forum.... i am finding the members to be very helpful and knowledgeable... unlike other make forums i have been involved with over the years.

Gets a thumbs up from me! [;)]

Aw shucks, you're too kind![8D]

We're a pretty friendly bunch here in 944 land, all certifiable, but friendly.....[:D]

I'd go with Promax for an off the shelf chip, they're not the cheapest but they are well developed in my experience. It could knock 10 years off the feel of the car and you might even get better fuel consumption (thats been my experience when running around town).

FWIW, I fitted a K&N to my S2 last weekend (a friend visited from the US and you can get them very cheaply out there). It made no (discernible) difference to either the power or the sound, but it will more than pay for itself in servicing costs; a paper S2 filter costs about £15 and gets binned every 5000 miles or so. The K&N would cost about £25 from the states (but happened to be free!), and should last at least 50,000 miles before needing to be cleaned and re-oiled - costing pennies.

I guess that was just the K&N panel then, it's the cones that will be much more audible. Some drill their airboxes (not read of it being done on an S2, but it's quite common on 968's), I can see this could improve air flow and will also increase induction noise.

Yes, just the panel.

Airbox can be drilled .... here's one I did earlier ...

(With paper filter in pic.) Not sure that those holes did anything for the ultimate performance; they changed the noise and throttle response, but I'm not 100% sure it's any quicker. Still, it did OK in the last dyno day, so I can't grumble.

*sigh*

These:

... will go quicker than these ...

... but nothing is as quick as one of these ...

Does that clear things up? Good.

Now, back to where we were.
