newby saying hello

Chrisrtmas seems to have switched the goodwill to all men switch on ! the S2 all day long for a regular daily driver, great mid range power and driveability, i love them to bits !
Check my signature, both weekend drivers with the Turbo S being quite tweaked up............which is very fast ! not much modern stuff can look at it performance wise.
The 220 turbo in standard form is more drivable.
To sum up both models are good but buy on condition.........................i have been down the" it will tidy up route" depending how fussy you are it can cost you.
Find a mint S2 then uy it...........find a mint turbo then you have hit the jackpot.
Buy the best model you can find..............i would have an S2 as a daily driver if i did not have 2 dogs 2 kids and the numerous trips to the tip Blah Blah.
A Very Happy Xmas To All.

Love a nice Zinfandel!

The ultimate Grand Tourer of the '80, with the V8 it can be a major money eater, very complex car for its age, but a real performer, 4.6 litre 2 valve 250hp to 5.4 litre 4 valve 350hp, loads of versions.
Most have auto boxes of various 3 (I think) 4 and 5 speed versions but there are a few manuals.
Mike

hi its me again

I have looked at a couple of cars and most have bubbling through the paintwork at the lower wings next to the sills this doesn't look to difficult a repair or am I wrong?

Mick

Rusted lower front wings are common on the 944, most will have some or will have already been repaired, I was quoted ÂŁ750-ÂŁ1250 for both wings done and front end respray (tidy up paint chips, etc), seems reasonable to me...

Rusty sills are more of an issue and can be an mot failure point.

Edd

I had both my front wing bottoms repaired (new metel let in) and repainted for ÂŁ400 plus vat

Cheers for the replies guys quite happy to do a bit of bodywork repairs myself but i have never worked on porsche, MG was the last car replaced sills etc just wondered if they were more complicated?

Mick

MG was the last car replaced sills etc just wondered if they were more complicated?

It's just a car, and it's made from steel rather than aluminium or carbon fibre, so it's not complicated. Just that some of us wouldn't know a welder from a kettle so we pay fortunes to have someone else do the work! [&:]

Paul is absolutely right it is just a car. A bloody good and well put together one but a car none the less. Although I know the dangerous end of a mig welder the art of bodywork repair still remains a black art for me. Everything else is fair game and I actually get immense pleasure from maintaining the old girl. Gives me a lot of satisfaction. Go on dig in and get your hands dirty you won't regret it.

Hi Mick. I wouldn't buy a Mars Bar off this bloke. He sells them too... He's got a corner shop.

He proposes to be a private seller, but seems to have a number of cars for sale... His name is Paul Gill and I bought mine from him. Listed on Pistonheads and eBay etc and has a full list of Porsche code numbers. He makes them up.

I was promised a full wad of paperwork and spare key for mine. Half a year on and i'm still waiting. OK, I should not have parted with cash prior to being happy, but he seemed Ok to me...

Be warned. Look somewhere else.

Trev

Yes the wing quotes tally up with the figure quoted to get mine done (hopefully in the very near future). As for being complicated, one of the joys of 944's is that despite being hugely capable cars they are not over complex/delicate, just superbly engineered. Anyone with a decent amount of mechanical know how/confidence can do alot of the various jobs that the cars need themselves. Sadly I am a mechanical numpty so rather like Paul and others end up paying various wodges of cash to others to do the work for me. [&o]

Thanks for the replies guys think looks like I am going to buy the car from a guy on this board. The wings need doing but the rest looks sound.

Trev which guy are you refering too?

Its okay Tev I know now I got an email from him saying it was sold lucky escape then [:)]

His name is Paul Gill ...
That guy's name has come up in 944 discussions before. With a nod to the 'Name and Shame' rules on here I won't go into detail (PM me if you want), but I have heard enough to say that I would never ever purchase a car of any kind off him. Be warned, he goes by different forenames as well ...

Lucky escape Mick, if that is the case.

Oli.

Sorry! I didn't read the smal-print re names... He sells cars and reckons they are his, and he has just upgraded to a 911 so the 944 is up for grabs. His brother has a Ferrari.

I was lucky that my S2 is OK, but I did want one with all the documantation that was promised. Initially the paperwork was at his home, but he had been away at his bar abroad. Then it was at his fathers - but he was moving. The spare key is with this documentation. Basicaly it never existed - but he was not man enough to say so.

I won't give his name again, but he has a corner shop just off Burley Road in Leeds, and he lists on Pistonheads, eBay, Gumtree, Car & Classic etc.

As I said, I won't give his name, but below are anagrams of his name for you to work out...

Pail Gull
A Pig Lull
A Gull Lip
A Gulp Ill
A Plug Ill
A Lug Pill
Gal I Pull
Gal Ill Up
Lag I Pull
Lag Ill Up
Gap I Lull
La Gill Up
La Gull Pi
La Lug Lip
La Pug Ill
All Gulp I
All Plug I
All Lug Pi
Pall Lug I
Lap Gull I
Pal Gull I
Alp Gull I
Pa Lug Ill

He goes by other names as well. An anagram of one of those would be "Gam Kill". I am sure you can work it out.

Anagrams, eh? My name anagrams to "Grr - Harm Via Large Porker". Well, it amused me!

Oli.

Oh is it?

Ahhh - I thought they were one and the same. Clearly certain traits run in families. Thanks for putting me in the picture.

(Mick - read my PM in the light of what Trev has just said - I didn't realise this at the time. Not that it makes a fat lot of difference.)
