Hi everyone,

North Yorkshire Moors weekend based at Pickering.
Dates: Saturday 26th March 2011.

I have conferred with Tom and run the weekend past him.

There is a superb bed and breakfast in Pickering called 'Grindale House'.
Me and Maggie have stayed there several times. Check out their accomodation via google.
They have 6 double en-suite available.

I have provisionally booked all 6.

The b and b is extremely well presented. Apart from the lovely new rooms, there is a super lounge with complimentary
port/sherry available. Located within 1 minutes walk into the town centre.

There is private secure and secluded off road parking which is a must for our cars.

Probable itinerary:

Drive up early sat 26th. Park at Designer Centre at Fulford, A19. I know just the area to park our Porsches and have done
so many times.
Catch the park and ride bus into York for the morning/lunch.
Afternoon drive from Fulford to Malton.

Visit Specialist Cars of Malton.

Leisurely drive to Pickering.

Evening meal at a brill Indian perhaps? Spice4U is great and only 3 minutes walk away.

Sunday morning after a hearty breakfast, whatever you fancy.
Perhaps a scenic drive through Dalby Forest and a coffee at Raven Hotel at Ravenscar.

A drive to Whitby?

Cost: £37.50 per person for b and b.

Proprieter: Valerie

I have booked by leaving my credit card details(nothing taken yet).

Hi Robin
Put us down as a definite. Sounds like an interesting weekend.
Will be great start to the 'season' and something to look forward to during those cold, dark winter days.
Cheers

This sounds like fun - please count us in [:D]

Looking forward to Harrogate too now we have Blue back from Ninemeister - 311 bhp; 367 Nm torque - and a very big bill!
Still running it in but it revs very freely and I think will be a lot of fun.

Good morning gang

Just to give you the heads up - I have just booked our room with Valerie and there is only one left so if you haven't booked -DO IT NOW!

Hi, any chance of 2 outsiders from R7? Sounds like a good weekend to start the year. I understand numbers are limited so do I need to contact the hotel or is there 1 room spare? Thanks, John

Just rung Valerie and, alas, no rooms left. So unless I can find another hotel close by (which I know there are a few). ???

Hi John,

Just got back from two weeks holiday!

It would be lovely if you could join us. You are right there are several b and b's in Pickering and some nice Hotels.
You are more than welcome.

If you can confirm you are coming I can arrange reservations at the Indian.

Cheers

They have secure private car parking. I have stayed before and the best parking is at the rear of the Hotel away from prying eyes.

Hi John and Jane,

Great news. Really pleased you have found a nearby Hotel and can join us.

I will post on here an itinerary nearer the time.
Looking forward to York, Specialist Cars of Malton, the Indian experience and a lovely drive on Sunday.
The drive, weather permitting will include following a tulip map from an earlier rally organised by the CSMA Classic Car Club I attended. It was a superb drive through the Forest of Dalby.

Kind regards

Robin

Hi Everyone,

I am putting together a provisional itinerary for the weekend and would like your thoughts/comments!

Saturday 26th March 2011.

Meet at the Little Chef Services/Texaco Garage on the A1, half a mile north of the A638 Wakefield/Doncaster junction, to leave as a group at 10am.

Drive A1 north, then A64 towards York. Exit at A19 Designer Outlet Centre, Fulford. Park as a group at the park and ride car park and either browse around the Designer Centre or catch the bus into York. Number 7 bus. Get off the bus at the next stop just after Clifford's Tower. This is the same stop when returning to the car park. ( travel time 15mins- 5 times per hour)

Browse York a fabulous City. Eat lunch and return to the car park to leave at 3pm.

Drive A64 to Malton. Stop off at Specialist Cars of Malton around 3.30 to 3.45pm . Mark Mullen is expecting our group.

Drive A64 then A169 to Pickering to our destination, Grindale House, located 50 metres prior to first roundabout, turn right immediately after BP garage. Access 50 metres on left.

Beansheaf located A169 3 miles south of Pickering on the left.

Dinner at 7pm Spice4U in Pickering. Location: A169 into Pickering. At first roundabout turn left. Restaurant is situated 200 metres on the right.

Tables of 4 to 6 arranged near to each other. Each table to manage their group bill for easiness.

After our evening curry, stroll around Pickering's local pub's.

Sunday 27th March 2011.

Breakfast 8.30am

Meet at BP Garage A169 near to roundabout at 9.30am

Drive south on A169. When opposite the Beansheaf Hotel re- set trip metre to zero and then follow tulip map
on a scenic route that meanders through Dalby Forest ( sometimes a toll charge) finishing at Raven Head Hotel at
Ravenscar. Arranged coffee/biscuits at nominal cost.

The Raven Head Hotel has superb gardens and views across the sea to Robin Hoods Bay.

Several options:

Either continue following tulip map which will take you to Goathland, then across the North Yorkshire Moors finishing at Hutton le Hole.

Or

Take a trip to Whitby. Trenchers open for fish and chips all day. Closed at 6pm booking required. Cost about £13 each for fish and chips. Check out their website for menu.

Or

Drive using the tulip map to the A169 then drive south along this fantastic road to Pickering. Then drive along the A170 to Thirsk. Then A168 south and take turn to Asenby.

Have lunch at the Crab and Lobster Asenby. Need to be there no later than 1.30pm ( closed 2pm)
Fish chips and mushy peas/tartare sauce £16.50 each. Check out their website for menu. Booking required. This is the sister restaurant of Trenchers and is an excellent venue of comparable status.

Leisurely drive home.
