NX 1452 - was this yours???

Agreed. I think the numbers of 1000 worldwide and 70 UK are most often applied to the '88 Turbo S. Also, the 250BHP. Reading all the various press from the 80's it seemed logical that because the S was a 16V, the Turbo S would be a turbocharged 16V motor. But it wasn't.

I'm still not sure about this ventiler car. I've seen 2-3 now and all look different. Nigel Edwardes has a picture of one in his book 'Porsche 924 & 944' he says it was fully loaded sports special edition 1000 made and 70 came to the UK.
If it had 250bhp it must have had a turbo engine .
Ventiler translates as '16 valver' the 16 valve head was introduced in 1987 so it is entirely possible that a special edition was issued to mark the event.

here's a claimed ventiler for sale on Gumtree for £1900 which is cheap for any 944 . Its in a very odd brown livery with no visible decals.

I think most of this confusion comes from authors not bothering to do proper research themselves but copying other peoples work . This is how mis information gets perpetuated simply because there is so many occurences in print, nobody bothers to question it.
The Turbo SE ( Turbo S in the US) was a 250bhp fully loaded special edition of 1000 cars in Silba Rosa . According to Brian Long (Porsche 944) there were an additional 635 cars to the same mechanical spec but no special livery.

Someone needs to do a physical check of one of these ventiler cars and take some pics and check the handbook etc

At some point this was badged as a 944S buti was just wondering why?

Still has ventiler side stripes on it but now no S badge.

Elliot any chance of some pictures of the engine bay and the side decals ? I would like to do some more research on the ventiler . If you could give me part of the chassis number it would be helpful too.

It's not April already is it...?![;)]

I have read many Porsche books and never read about a 16v Turbo model, limited or otherwise.

That car isn't even on the 16" turbo rims and I doubt the standard 15" teledials would fit over the Turbo's bigger brakes?

It seems like there has long been some confusion over some of the S models which has not been helped by certain authors who clearly haven't done their research.

As I understand it the 944S (also know as the Ventiler or 16 valver) was introduced in 1987 . There are many claims that this was a special edition car with limited numbers .
In addition to this there was a 944 Turbo SE which was known as a 944 Turbo S in the US. This car was a limited edition of 1000 cars and was 250BHP filly loaded sports version.
I believe Nigel Edwards may have mistaken the 944Turbo S ( available in the US) for the 944S because his book shows a ventiler with special edition decals fully loaded and a claimed 250BHP .
