OBC retro-fit - PST can't find instruments cluster

Nick,
Where are you, I might take you up on your kind offer, although I am also tempted to go back to the guys in Wembley who fitter the air bag de-activation as they should have a PST-2.

I am just outside Gerrards Cross. I am around the next couple of days but then in Shanghai for a week.

Like Richard I have performed this 'hack' on many a 986/996 indeed I installed the OBC and Cruise Control on our 986.

.... However, once the instrument cluster problem is corrected and assuming it has not been done the Order Type will have to be re-entered in the DME to allow the coding of the OBC function.

For the UK the model type is 986321 I believe. The US variant is 986320 for a 2003 S model.
I might have the wrong end of the stick here but is your problem that when you do a search with PST2 your not getting any options under 'Instrument cluster'. If so you have do ask Nick points out, there will be nothing or 3 dashes in the area for 'TYPE', enter 986321 and do another search, it will then reveal the options under 'Instrument cluster'.
I had the same problem fitting a cruise stalk.

No Tony. His problem is that the PST2 won't connect to the cluster at all.

Just a thought. The fuse chart on the wiring diagrams shows fuse B10 as "Instrument Cluster Diagnosis". It would be worth checking the fuse.

Checked fuse B10 and it is OK.

I will try the handover routine next, if I can't get it done locally I will take Nick up on his kind offer on his return.

Thank you all for your persistence.

Visited local independent repairer and had them run the vehicle handover, which ran but still no cluster or a/c was detected by the PST2.

Its looking like a faulty cluster?

Yes, it seems odd that I have possible fault in both the cluster and the a/c. The cluster appears to work fine in terms of gauges and warning lights.

The a/c works fine too, one thing is a bit odd, when not in "Auto" it is in "Manuell" mode (not a type by me) do they all say this?
