Odd noises, really quite worried!

ORIGINAL: Diver944

Oli is 100% correct (as always [;)] ), a clutch change is well within the DIYers realm as it's just a very long list of things to unbolt/disconnect and then put back together again. I helped Tony F do his last year and armed with the guide on Clarks Garage it was very straight forward.

By help, I mean I made the teas and ate the chocolate biscuits whilst he unbolted mechanical things from underneath his car [&:]

Think you did a bit more than that [:D] having someone along side for moral support and for the heavy bits is very helpful, and on a turbo first go might take longer, mine slipped into 3 days but then I also had a fuel line issue to sort at the same time.

Hello all,
sorry for the belated reply, I've had a pretty hectic few days!

Right, after extensive testing, I can safely say it's not the clutch.

I had it up on a ramp at my local mechanics, and we have located all of the noises to the rear of the gearbox/diff.

What has baffled me most though is how it went from being fine, to very noisy within an hour of driving! any small springs/seals/joints that could have gone quite quickly? I've got my eye on a few gear boxes on ebay, but I'd rather not buy and fit a replacement just to find its something like the connector from the torque tube to the gearbox which has come loos and it rattling about!

Any (more) ideas?

Thanks, Alex.

yeah ...........either put it into a garage or buy an exchange gearbox if you think it is that.

There is no way we are going to be able to guess what is wrong with your car with such inadequate information, if even your mechanic is unable to diagnose it having the car in front of him[:(]
