Crashed my pride and joy[&o] Crossed over a bus lane and the back end decided to overtake the front!! Tried to get it back but to no avail and hit some very heavy duty railings, that didn't aquire any damage at all!!! Its going into GK Group (Advance Accident Repair) in Chesterfield to be assessed but lets be honest, its a write off for sure. Here's a few pics for your perusal.

I dont think the neaibours are to happy that i drove it off the low loader accross the front of thier drive, leaving a nasty wheel scrape as i did it either!!!

Ouch! That front wheel has taken some serious impact. Hope you are ok? I imagine that your wrists might be a bit sore.

Here's hoping the insurance company are efficient, whatever the fate.

Aww bu99er. I wanted to see pics of the new wheels but not like that.

I think you're right it'll be written off, but it doesn't look too badly bent subject to the crossmember being OK.

Indeed, my right wrist and arm are a little sore but it could have been much worse!! To be honest the insurance(swiftcover) have been spot on so far. But lets see how i feel about them when it comes to agreeing a settlement!!

Im totally gutted and im not too proud to admit to a few tears over this. The worst part is, it was just about to go and have its sills sorted out!!

Oh well, hopefully i will have enough dosh to try and find a much better example.

The alloy wishbone is snapped, as is the anti rollbar drop link. If they offer me enough money i may well buy it back and restore. Or if not, a mate of mine is very interested in it for a track car.

It happened in Sheffield, Simon. If i do buy the car back, then id be more than happy to let you have second refusal on it(I'm not even sure my mate is serious to be honest). Though id like to keep a few bits and pieces from it of coarse.

Stu

Ahh, sorry, just seen you are from Sheff too.

It happened on London road, just after you turn off ST Mary's Gate. I rounded the corner and as i moved over to the right lane to go up Cemetary road, the back end overtook the front and the rest is history. It was very greasy and im sure their must have been diesel left from the buses that come through the bus gate. A biker mate of mine says he tip toes around there.

Stuart, glad you are OK, even if the car isn't.

Would be a shame if you couldn't buy the car back for a good price, though.

The roads are lethal out there at the moment, and these nice 'grippy' summer tyres aren't so grippy when the temps drop below 3 or 4 degrees.

Take care out there!

Except for Fen, 'cos he'll be wondering what all the fuss is about.....[8|][:D]

Stuart,

Whoosh! That's not good. Glad you survived OK. They're tough old cars, and it sounds like you needed it!

Bet you are glad you hadn't just paid out for the sills to be done, eh!

All the best with the insurers. Will you buy another one? You had that one a year or so, didn't you?

Oli.

Arrrgh, commiserations Stu [:(]

It shows what an awful lot of damage can be done at pretty pedestrian speeds if you hit something hard enough. Glad you are okay and hope the insurance covers it (looks like front and rear wing, new wheel and new suspension to fix)

The roads round sheff are very slippy, I just side too and from work. Real shame about the car. My last one got wrote off by the insurance and they let me buy it back for £300, so all may not be lost.

ouch bad luck. It can happen to any of us any time. I wrote my Lux off at 20mph losing it on a greasy roundabout so I know just how you feel right now.
Concentrate on gathering together all your previous receipts and photos ,tax disks MOT's etc and build it into a nice presentation folder for the insurance assessor.
Get some typical sale prices of comparable cars of the net and add those to help him with the valuation. He may ignore them but you can use them as evidence to challenge their first payout offer
Try to get the car seen by the insurance assessor at your address. If you let a local nominated garage pick it up you will run the risk of having to pay for pickup, storage, attendance and disposal costs and courtesy car etc which will eat into your payout.

ask me how I know this
