The general advice is that 911 engines burning oil is not in itself a bad sign, but I'm sure (although no doubt someone more mecanically qualified will set me straight) they weren't designed to do it.
Oh yes they were !
All down to the configuration/cylinder coating/piston ring gap/position of head gear etc.
Porsche expect them to burn oil at a steady rate, and they should know.
Their figures are designed to be worst case, and mine on full synthetic burns only a small amount (only 120K miles, mind you, so still young - well, the car anyway).
