Oil leak

hi you will find its a power steering fluid pipe..it did this on my dads a few months ago..new pipe and clips..job done...hope it is for you..cheers carl

Yeah same thing here, the pipe for the power steering had corroded, its a bloody great snake of a thing, apparently to cool the fluid down in hotter climates. You don't really need all the piping, just snip out the bad bit and put a replacement in.

Yep, I have this too and it's booked in in January to be resolved. The housing that the oil filter screws into is bolted to the block via a gasket. This is leaking slightly, and so I have an oil leak under pressure only. Probably going to cost loads to fix, whereas replacing a small amount of lost oil is far cheaper, but not ideal certainly.

James,

I know that I often come across as the PIKEY of the forum, but I have a similar issue and have decided that oil is quite cheap compared with garage time to fix it. (And my time is in remarkably short supply at the moment. Particularly when it comes to a choice between fixing the car in the cold and rain vs. another beer by the fire.)

I know that I often come across as the pikey of the forum,

Not allowed to say that any more, Oli. You're the "person or persons who should be of Romany origin but rarely are who exercise their right to live a travelling lifestyle and ignore society's rules and conventions at very opportunity" of the forum. [8|]

Snag is, McNulters, you are a mod in these parts, and I'm not sure whether I should take that comment seriously ... [;)]

I'll edit my original post, just in case you are being serious!

Oli.

Edit to avoid any possibility of conflict with McNulty. I've had posts on here removed before, and value my operational login!

(Although I quite agree with your sentiment, Scotty.)

Of course I'm joking - it's Christmas! [:D][:D] I'd forgotten you had a post removed, the scars WILL heal in time, Oli.

I will be back to my usual grumpy self in the New Year and wielding my banning-stick if you step out of line in any way....[;)]

Honestly McNulters! I've just had to go back to re-edit the original post, putting the word-of-possible-offence back in! []

If you'd just stayed in (grumpy) character and held onto that banning-stick then everything would have been so much simpler! [][]

Oli.

P.S. Yes ... 'twas for something equally non-PC. But quite a good joke, as I recall ...

Oh I don't know Oli, I've always been impressed that not only do you do most of your own maintenance, but that you do it on the side of the road. Surely that's the sign of a true enthusiast - keeping a car on the road come hell or high water?

Still, I am fixing this as I have some nice oil cooler pipes that I bought on eBay for a song, and I want to get them fitted. Not that I need them of course, as the leak will invariably be from somewhere else. Still I'd happily try it myself if, say, I had a heated double garage and the entire Teng Tools back catalogue to rely on.....

I IRC there is a steel threaded insert screwed into the block onto which the oil filter screws.
You may find this bush has got loose when a very tight oil filter unscrewed it a little rather than initially unscrewing off the bush.
If so it needs resetting in the block casting using a Loctite or similar threadlock & screwed in really tight-using something like a strapwrench to grip it tightly without damaging the threads or 2 same thread locknuts tightened against each other on the bush.
Leave over night before refitting a new filter carefully ,enough to seal but not too tight that it moves the bush-smear a little oil on the filter rubber seal to help.

You might also have an issue with the Oil Pressure regulator valve - Ed Hodgson had this happen to his S2 with similar symptoms

Well if it's any help, the oil pressure regulator valve I replaced on my 944S due to a oil leak on the cooler housing. I used the wrong "alignment drift" to align the OPRV in the cooler/Engine housing, so with this and the resulting high oil of pressure placed on the oil filter it was something else (it sounded like a champagne cork going off) within seconds it push the rubber seal out of the oil filter and vast quantities of oil too! Possibly any alignment issue with the OPRV may be a cause ??
